Can we talk about this for a second? 👇
1 in 3 single mothers in Memphis lives below the poverty line. In OUR city.
Behind that statistic are real women, real kids, real families.
At Dorothy Day House, we see the people behind the numbers. We believe every family deserves the chance to stay together and build a stable future — that’s why we’re committed to providing housing, support, and a pathway forward for families experiencing homelessness.
Every donation helps provide a safe place for families to stay together and help them access permanent housing, reliable transportation, and living-wage employment.
YOU can be the change.

We are incredibly grateful for the continued support of Rivard-Royall GMC and their commitment to helping keep families together in Memphis. ❤️
After learning about our mission at a meeting, owner Steven Royall reached out to us with a simple but powerful question: “How can we help?” Since then, Rivard-Royall GMC has become a valued partner in our work to help families stay together while pursuing permanent housing and long-term stability.
Thank you for believing in the dignity of every family and for investing in a stronger Memphis community.🫂

Every light that stays on. Every family that moves in with groceries in the fridge. Every toddler who gets to go to childcare. Every parent who makes it to that job interview.
It starts with you. 💛
Members of the Day by Day Circle give as little as $10/month — and together they cover utilities and connectivity for every Dorothy Day House home. We're working toward 120 members by August, and we'd love for you to be one of them.
$10. $20. $50. Whatever you can do — it keeps the lights on, and keeps families together- day by day.

It takes a village — and we’re grateful for the people helping us build one. 🤍
This week, families at Dorothy Day House had the opportunity to learn from Tenikki Sesley, founder of Apple Seeds,Inc., as she shared about mental wellness, motherhood, and the importance of support systems through different seasons of parenting.
Through our Family Workshops, community partners help equip families with knowledge, encouragement, and practical tools that support long-term stability and well-being.
Thank you, Tenikki, for walking alongside our families and reminding us that no parent should have to navigate life alone.

This weekend, we were blessed to spend time in fellowship with the Dorcas Circle Ministry at Castalia Baptist Church — a congregation that has faithfully supported Dorothy Day House for more than 6 years through donations, prayers, and service. ❤️
From collecting and organizing paper products for our families to welcoming members of DDH to worship and share a meal together, their kindness continues to remind us what community looks like.
Our Executive Director, Tracy Burgess, had the opportunity to share more about our mission and the families we serve, and how partnerships like theirs make this work possible every day.
We are deeply grateful to Pastor Dr. James Johnson and the entire Castalia Baptist Church family for their dedication, generosity, and continued support of our mission to keep families together. 🏡

This week’s provocation:Laugh
For Dorothy Day and the Catholic Worker Movement, laughter was not separate from hardship — it was part of surviving it.
Kate Hennessy writes that Dorothy found humor in “the absurdity of the human condition and the joy of it.” Even amid poverty, uncertainty, overcrowded houses of hospitality, and the heaviness of the world, there was still room for delight.
“There is an inherent loving kindness in humour,” she writes. “It’s an antidote to despair and anxiety.”
This week, remember:
joy is not a distraction from the work.
Sometimes, it’s what sustains it.
Joy is not a distraction from the work.ker

Throwback to a recent Monday Night Meal 🤍🍽️
There’s something powerful about gathering around the table together. Volunteers shared a meal, conversation, and community with families staying at Dorothy Day House — reminding us that hospitality can look as simple as showing up and sharing a seat.
Thank you to everyone who helped make the evening feel warm, welcoming, and full of joy. 🏡
