The (mini) Really, Really Free Market is back again with Oxford Community Market!

The RRFM is a space for members of the Lafayette-Oxford-University community to take care of each other, practicing mutual aid by sharing goods and services with no expectation of compensation. This means no money or exchanges are necessary, just give what you can and take what you need!

The market will run alongside & in partnership with the Oxford Community Market from 3:00pm to 6:30pm, Tuesday, June 28th at the Old Armory Pavilion at 1801 University Avenue. Stop by anytime to spend time with your community while getting some local produce & stopping by the RRFM area to pick up and/or drop off some free food, clothes, kitchenware, toiletries, kids’ toys, books, art, and more! We’ll be joined by featured guest speakers & former student organizers, Dominique Garrett-Scott & Mina Aria! Dominique is a graduate of the University of Mississippi & founder of Students Against Social Injustice whose campus organizing included the 2015 campaign. Mina is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis & founder of their chapter of Students for Justice in Palestine whose campus organizing included the Peabody Coal divestment campaign.

They will be discussing their past experiences as student organizers, their current work, & visions for the future of campus organizing.

The deadline to submit short (2-3 sentence) proposals for the Dis-Orientation Guide has been extended to this Thursday, Sept. 16 at midnight!

The Dis-Orientation Guide is an upcoming short publication targeted towards freshmen and other newcomers to UMiss, and those interested in getting involved in progressive movements here and in the surrounding community.

Submissions are open to current & former UMiss students, staff, contracted workers, faculty, and other local community members. Collaborative and anonymous submissions are welcome. 2-3 sentence proposals will be accepted until midnight on September 16th, will receive feedback, then final submissions (no longer than about 1000 words) will be due midnight on October 3rd. Feedback & potentially edit requests will be provided to submissions as they come in, but submissions will not be edited (other than typographical corrections) without your consent.

Some potential submission topics may include:
* the university’s role in the US empire
* ongoing, recent, or historical student or worker-led social movement
* stories about the university’s abuse of Black people, indigenous people, etc.
* anecdotes about discrimination at the university
* examples of how the values of patriarchy and colonialism play out in academia
* info/guide on safe s*x, drug harm reduction
* what to do if you become a victim of s*xual abuse/assault, how to be an ally to someone who has
* labor conditions and disparity
* strategies and tactics for fighting back, protest rights as a student / worker / citizen
* current social issues on campus
* university’s economic/social impacts on Oxford & on Mississippi
* university’s exploitation of local communities
* university’s role & relationship to gentrification, prison-industrial complex, climate change

Some potential submission formats might include:
* personal narratives
* biographical narratives
* short interviews
* profiles on admin, donors, etc.
* historical research
* creative writing and poetry
* visual art (drawings, paintings, photography, collages, comics, digital art, etc.)
* music playlists
* lists of resources
* previously published work (blog posts, article excerpts, Twitter threads, etc.)
