A great opportunity for students and recent graduates to get a foot in the door with real political campaign experience. If you are looking for a future in politics, organizing, advocacy or a fun and engaging summer in Memphis, this campaign will help you develop necessary skills for your future career. You'll make professional connections, learn new skills, become part of a team, experience Memphis, accomplish and set goals while working on this congressional campaign. It is also possible to receive academic internship credit.

On this democratic primary election campaign, opportunities may include:
• Staffing the congressman at various events.
• Representing the campaign at local events.
• Experiencing and learning more about all parts of Memphis and the 9th district
• Training and building relationships with volunteers for calling/canvassing efforts.
• Organizing and tasking volunteer campaign workers with necessary fieldwork duties.
• Supporting campaign voter contacting efforts.
• Working in other departments of the campaign, such as finance, fundraising, and outreach.

Congressman Steve Cohen's campaign is currently recruiting
interns for this summer. The internship will likely begin in late May,
and it will run through early August. Interns will be able to make
their own schedules as long as they complete 125 hours + all day
election day for the campaign. While there is no requirement to
register for college credits in order to take part in this internship
opportunity, the University of Memphis will allow students to earn 3
upper division political science or 3 upper division communications
hours for completing the internship program (e-mail [email protected]
for updates on other universities/colleges offering credits). The
University of Memphis now allows students to complete internships in
the summer and register for them in the fall, which allows financial
aid to cover the college credit expenses.

This is not a paid internship, but students will receive gas
stipends and those who complete the internship will be eligible to
receive letters of recommendation from the Congressman. Most of the
internship duties will be concentrated in field work, but interns will
also be able to earn time towards their internship attending events,
fundraisers, and commercial shoots.
