Always a pleasure attending UC Merced’s annual State of the University and hearing from Chancellor Muñoz about the incredible progress happening right here in our community.

A few highlights that stood out: UC Merced is now ranked among the top 20% of universities worldwide, students contributed 94,419 volunteer hours in our community last year, the university generates $1.4 billion in statewide economic impact and supports 8,600 jobs, and is officially part of NCAA Division II!

As a City Councilmember, I believe attending events like these is so important. Understanding what’s happening at UC Merced, its growth, challenges and future plans helps inform the decisions we make on the dais and how we plan for Merced’s future.

Thank you, Chancellor Muñoz, for the invitation! Always great to attend alongside my colleagues Darin DuPont and Mike Harris. 💙💛

Scams can happen to anyone, and the financial consequences can be devastating!

When I worked at a CPA firm, one of our clients, an older woman, was scammed out of $30,000 because she believed the person on the other end of the phone was from the IRS. It's something I've never forgotten.

That's why I'm so glad to see the Merced Police Department offering an Elder Fraud Prevention Class to help residents recognize scams, identify warning signs and protect themselves from fraud.

If you or someone you know could benefit from this class, please sign up using the link or QR code in the original post!

Please share this with your parents, grandparents, neighbors and loved ones. A little awareness could prevent someone from losing their hard-earned savings! ❤️

The Merced Police Department invites community members ages 50 and older to join us for an Elder Fraud Prevention Class.

Scammers are constantly finding new ways to target individuals. Join us to learn how to recognize common scams and identify warning signs of fraud.

Participants must be 50 years of age or older to attend.

Knowledge is your best defense. Join us to stay informed, protect yourself, and help spread awareness throughout our community.

Today marked an exciting milestone for the City of Merced as we broke ground on an affordable housing development, Mercy Village, which is located in District 5!

Six years in the making, this project will bring 65 affordable, permanent supportive housing units, including 20 designated for veterans. It’s also a great example of infill development, a City Council priority focused on creating more housing opportunities within our existing community. Its location near schools and shopping will also provide residents with convenient access to everyday necessities.

I can’t thank our City staff, UPHoldings, the Housing Authority, Merced County and all the partners enough for the tremendous amount of work it took to bring this project to life!

While today’s groundbreaking is an exciting milestone, I’m already looking forward to when we’ll get to welcome residents into their new homes!

Another step forward in our continued commitment to expanding affordable housing opportunities in Merced!

The Merced County Fair is trying something new in 2027 with TWO weekends of fair fun. After talking with a few folks with a vested interest in livestock and entering the Fair, I think the new format could actually be a good thing. The added first weekend brings the carnival and motorsports, followed by traditional Fair week with livestock, the Rodeo and more.

I think it’s worth a try! If it doesn’t work, they can always go back in 2028. The most important takeaway? More days for corn dogs, 4-H milkshakes and Fair fun. I can get behind that.

🎡 SAVE THE DATES! 🎡

The 2027 Merced County Fair is coming your way for TWO weekends of fair fun! 🎉

🗓 June 4–6, 2027
🗓 June 9–13, 2027

Two weekends. More fair. More fun. ❤️🎠

Mark your calendars—we’ll see you at the Fair!

255 traffic stops in one operation, including 62 cell phone violations, 42 speeding violations and dozens of other moving violations.

And the one that really caught my attention: 64 MPH on Olive Avenue! 🫢

Operations like this are an important reminder that traffic safety is public safety. Thank you to the Merced Police Department, California Highway Patrol, and law enforcement partners from Atwater, Gustine, Dos Palos and Los Banos for working together to keep our streets safer!

22 patrol vehicles. One goal: safer streets.

Today, Merced PD teamed up with the California Highway Patrol and the cities of Atwater, Gustine, Dos Palos, and Los Banos for a traffic safety exercise focused on and around school zones throughout Merced.

The regional effort focused on speeding, distracted driving, and other unsafe driving behaviors that put students, families, and others on our roads at risk.

Thank you to our regional partners for working alongside us to help keep Merced’s streets safe.

Since the 1960's, Merced Applegate Zoo has served as a cherished community destination where generations of families have connected with California's incredible wildlife.

Today, the zoo proudly continues that legacy as an educational wildlife rescue, providing a permanent home for animals that cannot return to the wild due to injury or other circumstances.

As we look to the future, Merced Applegate Zoo is evolving into a modern center for conservation, education, and community engagement—where every rescued animal inspires a deeper appreciation for our natural world and every visit helps foster the next generation of environmental stewards.

We are so excited to showcase our upgraded walking paths, gift shop, Bobcat exhibit, and all new Black Bear exhibit with our supporters!

Join us Friday, July 24th at 10:00am for our grand reopening.

🇺🇸 Happy 250th Birthday, America! 🇺🇸

Wishing everyone a safe, happy and memorable 4th of July as we celebrate our nation’s independence and 250 years of history.

A special thank you to the Merced Sunrise Rotary Club and the Field of Honor for generously lending the American flags displayed throughout Merced. If you’ve driven down M Street/Veterans Boulevard, N Street, or past Applegate Park and some of our fire stations, you’ve likely noticed these beautiful displays.

A special thank you to our City of Merced Public Works team for installing American flags at intersections throughout the city. Their efforts helped bring an extra sense of pride and patriotism to our community as we celebrate America’s 250th birthday.

Have a wonderful Independence Day, Merced! ❤️🤍💙
