We are proud to announce that Loren Parra has been officially appointed as Director of the Department of Environmental Resources Management (DERM).

As Miami-Dade County’s former Chief Resilience Officer and Chief Bay & Water Resources Officer, she has led critical efforts to restore Biscayne Bay, increase resilience funding, and protect our drinking water supply and natural resources.

Under her leadership, the newly independent DERM will work to create smart policy and meaningful investments to safeguard Miami-Dade’s air, land, and water, for generations to come.

IT’S GETTING HOT IN HERE, VALENTINE. 🌡️🔥 Above-average heat this week—take precautions!👇

The heat is ON in Miami-Dade, with feels-like temps climbing into the 90s and possibly higher in inland areas over the next few days. Above-average temperatures may affect individuals who are sensitive to heat.

If you’re sensitive to heat (or have pets), take steps to stay safe:

✅ Drink plenty of to stay hydrated
✅ Limit outdoor activities, especially midday
✅ Wear light, breathable clothing and sunscreen
✅ Never leave kids or pets in parked cars—even for a minute
✅ Protect pet paws when walking on hot surfaces
✅ Check on elderly neighbors and those without AC

Remember, direct sun exposure can add up to 15°F—so plan ahead and stay cool!
