We have osprey poles! So happy we drove up to see them get put in today! My dad would’ve been so thrilled to see this project come to life. Thank you to all of the continental crew, conservation committee members, and donation contributors for making this a reality!

We are spending our spring break bird watching! One of my favorite past times to share with my kids

Thinking of my dad today on his birthday. He was indifferent about his birthday and my phone call was often his reminder that it was in fact his birthday. I always celebrated him regardless of his indifference. He would be so excited to see the incredible progress we’ve made with the osprey poles. I can’t think of a better birthday gift for him (other than the Star Trek communicator I made for him out of cardboard when I was 8 😆)

We miss him so much!

An update on the osprey pole project and a request for help if you’re near by and able!

The poles are here, the nest boxes (2 osprey & 1 Eagle) have been delivered and we hope to be installing them soon. But there is one more thing that we could use from the CCC Community. Nesting Materials. It is getting late in the season and to increase the "curb appeal" for our nesting platforms to attract birds we want to stock the platforms with suitable nesting Material. You can help. Both Eagles and Ospreys like dead, dry branches. Hardwoods are best. Oak, ash, pine.. Nothing treated or painted. 1-3" in diameter. 2-4' long. finger to wrist thick. Later we will add dry grasses, hay and Spanish moss. No fresh green branches or wood dust. If you can collect some branches and leave them near the marked area near the Boat Launch by the Gazebo. We need a fair sized pile about the size of a 3' X 6' stack of chord wood. - HELP!

Took a walk down rabbit trail to check out the osprey poles. Can’t wait to see them go up!

We went on a nature walk to see what we could find and ended with a little moment of peace on the dock. We hope everyone is ready for the holidays!

UPDATE: We’ve found a volunteer! Thank everyone!

A delayed update on our fundraising project for the osprey poles my dad was advocating for — we were successful in raising enough funds to have three osprey poles put in! The poles have arrived at Continental Country Club and the nests are ready. Thank you to everyone who contributed!!

Now we would like to find a volunteer with a small pickup truck to drive to Sanibel Island to pick the nests up. We will reimburse you for your expenses. The ospreys have begun searching for suitable accommodation and the rising water levels have decreased the availability of trees. We want to provide all the help we can. If interested private message me and i will get you in contact with our winderful organizers for this project! hde

Late night bunny party on the Gator Inlet patio! 🐰🪩

Our junior environmentalist field research team spent their Sunday exploring the woods, the lake, and the canal. They discovered wild bitter melon, caught a glimpse of a bald eagle, saw an alligator, and explored the fish pods right off our own dock.

We will need to work on their wildlife photography technique, the ibis didn’t appreciate them so much 😆

Always love to start my day with a bald eagle sighting from the porch!
