Having a child diagnosed with cancer is one of the most painful and difficult situations any parent or family can face. One in 285 children will be diagnosed with cancer by the time they turn 20. 59 years later and not much has changed for our children diagnosed with DIPG brain cancer. Diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma (DIPG) represents approximately 80% of the malignant brainstem tumors occurring in children. Five year survival rates can range from almost 0% for cancers such as DIPG.
Despite numerous clinical trials, the outcome of children with DIPG continues to remain dismal, with a median survival of only 11 months, while only 10% of DIPG patients have ≥ 2-year overall survival (OS) rate.
