It was a moving experience to participate in the naturalization of 14 new German citizens this week- all of them descendants of victims of N**i persecution. Many decades later, they have chosen to reclaim their German citizenship. On Tuesday, they received their naturalization certificates from Consul General Christofer Burger. Listening to the stories of their Grandparents’ escape, exile and longing for their lost homeland, the murder of family members during the Holocaust, the hardship suffered by the many unaccompanied children who fled to safety alone, brought tears to many eyes. The trust our new compatriots are placing in the democratic Germany we have built over the last 75 years with America’s help is humbling. Whenever we get a chance to right a historic wrong, even at a small scale, it matters - because it inspires hope that we can collectively do better.

Germany is moving assets into position.
Mine-hunter FGS FULDA is deploying to the Mediterranean to be forward-positioned to join a multinational mission to secure the Strait of Hormuz when the conditions are met.

Why forward-deploy now?
Pre-positioning saves critical time. The FULDA’s mine-hunting capabilities are internationally recognized as top-tier.
FULDA will be on standby and ready to act fast if called upon.

Current status: FULDA has left Kiel on Monday (May 4th)
Next stop: Mediterranean, joining NATO’s SNMCMG2

Germany’s potential contribution to a coalition mission:
Sea-based mine countermeasures
Command & logistics capabilities
Airborne reconnaissance

Any deployment requires three clear conditions:
A sustainable end to hostilities
A mandate under international law
Authorization from the German Parliament (Bundestag)

Germany is coordinating closely with its partners and allies including the United States at every step.
Additional German naval assets are expected to follow in the coming weeks.

The goal: keep the Strait of Hormuz open and safe for international shipping.
Freedom of navigation is a shared interest and Germany is ready to help defend it.
