Summer has come and gone... what a season☀

UPDATE: we have passed our water quality retest and the beach is reopened!

Unfortunately Jacques Cartier State Park failed our water quality testing for E. coli, so the beach will be closed until our test results come back safe!

We test water quality every week. If the results come back and fail, we will continue to test regularly until they are within the safe limits again. Water quality results for swimming beaches and openings/closures are also posted on our website! https://parks.ny.gov/activities/swimming/water-quality-beach-results?fbclid=IwY2xjawTgAdZwZG9mAWV4dG4DYWVtAjExAHNydGMGYXBwX2lkEDIyMjAzOTE3ODgyMDA4OTIAAR74wbqlScsGK1c4IB0ISWPvxu4iebm4Hy8gSt_KeN9ogbOoDblwE8Hgzib6ZA_aem_Rb9ZhLxsw8bZYlaleQOjHA

Why are programs and events in the Thousand Islands being canceled or postponed?

The Thousand Islands Region, not just NYS Parks, is currently experiencing 'Very Unhealthly' and 'Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups' air quality due to wildfire smoke. Air quality is being measured using the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation's Air Quality Index (AQI), and when levels reach this range, prolonged outdoors activity can pose health risks for everyone.

The safety of our visitors and staff is our top priority. When AQI reaches unhealthy levels, we may cancel, postpone, or relocate outdoor programs to reduce exposure.

We understand these changes can be disappointing but they're made with everyone's well-being in mind. Thank you for your understanding and patience as we continuously monitor the situation. Before heading out to your favorite park on your next adventure, we encourage you to check the latest AQI and keep an eye on our social media pages for updates.

To better understand the air you breathe, you can also visit https://dec.ny.gov/sites/default/files/2024-05/aqiweb.pdf.
