September is National Preparedness Month, and knowing what to do before, during, and after a tornado can make all the difference.
🌪️ Learn your area's tornado risk and understand the difference between a Tornado Watch and a Tornado Warning.
🌪️ Build an emergency plan that identifies a safe place, such as a basement or an interior room on the lowest floor away from windows, and includes a family communication plan.
🌪️ Pack an emergency kit with a weather radio, a flashlight, first-aid supplies, water, food, and important documents.
🌪️ Prepare your home by securing heavy furniture, removing items that could become projectiles, and trimming trees and shrubs.
If a tornado strikes, get to your safe place immediately, protect your head and body, and never try to outrun a tornado in a vehicle. After the storm passes, stay alert for downed power lines and gas leaks, check for injuries, and reach out to loved ones to let them know you're safe.
This , take the steps now so you're ready when severe weather strikes.
