Delaware County CASA Program CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates.

This page is used share the impact Delaware County CASA is having on the community and to encourage members of the public to engage with the program and help children in the community. CASA is a national nonprofit program that recruits, trains, supervises, and supports volunteers who advocate for abused and neglected children who are dependents of the court and in the child welfare system. In short, CASA volunteers are the eyes + ears of the judge outside of the courtroom and the voice of a child inside the courtroom.

Happy Birthday to Volunteer Rachel Wickliffe.

Rachel has been a volunteer with us for two years and advocated for the same little girl. Some of our cases take a long time until a child is able to be in a safe permanent home. Having a consistent CASA is reassuring to them and ensures that someone who really knows them is fighting for their best interest.

It is not just the physical safety of families that are affected by Domestic Violence. Children who feel unsafe in their home are more likely to suffer from depression and anxiety, struggle with behaviors and learning in school, and, fall victim to Domestic Violence as adults.

CASA's can ensure that the needs of these children are being met.

Often children are only removed from these situations if parents are arrested, and even if the offending parent is taken to jail, it takes several instances of DV for the victims to seek help, or to leave. This leaves children to witness repeated acts of violence in the place they should feel safest of all.
