Grapefruit pith. I can finally use that as a wine descriptor as this yummy Rose from Whispering Angel of Provence has plenty of it in the mid-palate. And a long finish of Jolly Rancher watermelon candy. A pleasure to drink and a nice pairing with my Mortadella olive sandwich. Thank you Provence! $14.99 at my local market.

Brixchicks started yesterday with international Rose for but today we will be switching to national Rose so stay tuned. The Clos Cibonne from Provence was a standout and is the competition to California rose we will be gulping today. Good luck CA.!!!

For those of you who scoff at Moscato there are actually beautiful wines made from this overlooked grape. Case in point: this Chambers fortified wine from Australia. Not cloying but beautifully balanced sugar and acidity. Notes of brown spices and citrus fruits. Silky palate. Slightly oxidized lending complexity. (wine had been sitting in my friends cellar for 10 years.) Served with an orange almond cake which was a perfect pairing. Gorgeous.

I’m impressed with this single-vineyard Pedroncelli Zinfandel, which is new to me, as well as the winery’s latest vintage of their classic “Mother Clone” Zinfandel. It’s well-nigh as big, bombastic an
