Proudly Representing the 40th House District in the Tennessee General Assembly

05/25/2026

Today as a country we pause to honor and remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. I personally stood with 2 families, SGT Shannon Taylor and PFC Billy Anderson, as they arrived back home from paying the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. We honor their selfless sacrifice and willingness to stand for the greatest nation in the world. We also remember their families and so many more that supported them in their service to defend our country. May God bless every veteran, every service member and the families of those that laid down their lives for our freedom. Freedom is not free.

For over 50 years, Commissioner Jeff Long has served his community and the state of Tennessee. Through his service as a prosecutor, Special Agent in Charge with the TBI, Dignitary Protection Detail, Sheriff of Williamson County, and Commissioner of the Department of Safety and Homeland Security, Commissioner Long has given all that he has to the service of his fellow man. As he plans to enter retirement at the end of the year, it was only right to honor him and thank him for his service. Today, I had the immense honor and pleasure of joining Gov. Bill Lee and members of the Department of Safety in presenting HJR 1308 to Commissioner Long and celebrating his upcoming retirement. It has been an honor to know Commissioner Long as a colleague and friend, and I wish him the best in his retirement!

Last week, the Tennessee General Assembly fulfilled its Constitutional duty of passing a balanced budget. This year's $58.3 billion budget includes historic investments in public education, community services, healthcare, and rural communities. Additionally, the inclusion of $7 million to participate in Summer EBT and feed 700,000 kids over the summer in 2027. It is an honor to serve you in the House of Representatives. God bless you all.

Last week, I was honored to join Senator Paul Bailey in welcoming the Jackson County High School, Gainesboro, TN basketball team to the Capitol to celebrate their historic championship win. These boys worked hard and have made their community proud. I am incredibly proud of the way that they have represented their school, Jackson County, and the Upper Cumberland throughout the season and playoffs. Congratulations!

Tennessee's participation in Summer EBT has been my top priority this year. It's not just a policy issue to me- it's personal. Thanks to Speaker Cameron Sexton and the tireless efforts of organizations such as Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, the Tennessee Justice Center, and county mayors from across the state, this year's budget includes 7 million dollars to participate in the program next summer. By participating in Summer EBT, we will feed nearly 700,000 kids from across all 95 counties, and pull down almost 90 million dollars in federal benefits. It's been an honor to work on this program this year, and I look forward to continuing this great work. May God bless you all.
