“How often do you get stung?”
That’s the number one ☝️ question people ask me.
The answer…more than I like!
But probably less than I deserve 🤣
Honey bees are generally docile. When I get stung it’s usually because I’m in a rush and it almost always starts off as a conversation in my head of “Well I’ll just do this one thing really quick.” Nope.
Bees don’t really appreciate when you try to do things on your terms and not theirs 😂
An example of this is opening your hives late. Like I did Monday night. I got to one of the apiaries later than intended and made the move to open the hives anyway. Oh, sweet stinging reminder.
Two guard bees rushed over to defend their hive from the intruder …lol it’s me.
If you’re opening your hives too late you’re putting yourself at a greater risk to get stung. Why? Because all the bees have returned from foraging and it’s a full house!
I got stung on my ring finger and my ankle. Luckily I was able to get my wedding ring off before my hand 🖐 became completely swollen. A swift reminder to respect the nature of the hives.
☝️ Always remember to completely remove the stinger and wash the wound. Always scrape and never pull the stinger out - as the venom sac will pump more venom into your body. 🐍
And slow down, the bees and your body will thank you 🐝

Check out this adorable leaf cutter bee 😍
This is a native bee ☝️
Did you know there are over 20,000 known species of bees in the world and around 4,000 are native to the United States?
Native bees are very important pollinators!
This week the temps will reach 100 in Nashville. One way to help our pollinators is to set out water for them. Make sure to add sticks, rocks, marbles, etc so they can have a little landing pad to cool off (and not drown!)

Did you know yesterday was World Bee Day?
May 20th was declared World Bee Day by the United Nations to increase awareness about the importance of pollinators.
In celebration, myself, worker bees and a handful of drones headed over to the farmer’s market on a field trip.
I loved watching everyone’s faces as they did a double-take when they saw the bees buzzing along making honey. Adults and children all had the same expression of fascination & wonder.
I heard so many stories about the colorful ways bees had been a part of different people’s lives and what it meant to them. I just love bees ❤️
Thank you to everyone who came out to last night ❤️🐝
