Cross Creeks National Wildlife Refuge

It's a quick glance, but that is a coyote or Canis latrans. The coyote is a species of canine native to North America. It is smaller than its relative, the gray wolf, and slightly smaller than the closely related red wolf.
You can usually tell a dog running from a coyote by looking at the tail. Dogs usually run with their tails up, while coyotes run with their tails down. They are very good swimmers, will eat just about anything and have few natural predators. They can run about 40 miles per hour.
