When disaster strikes, first responders are called to serve, regardless of the devastation that may have struck their homes. The Metro Nashville government consists of 10,563 employees. 11 members of the just advanced legislation that discriminates against 1,516 of them.

At the last check in, the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department has 142 vacancies.

We are now one step closer to solving the "mystery" of why they remain unfilled.

Earlier today, the Nashville FOP sent this letter to the members of the Metro Council. It is beyond disappointing that a bill designed to prevent "hate and discrimination" is discriminatory in nature itself.

Policing is a noble profession with individuals who put themselves in harms way, every day, to serve the public. Recent events could not demonstrate this more clearly. Service such as this deserves fair and equal treatment by all of the legislators in this city. Discrimination and hate of the police should never be tolerated by anyone, much less promoted by those who write the laws we are tasked to enforce.
