Our focus is on prenatal care up to a child's sixth birthday because we know it's those earliest years that matter most.

AIMHiTN is a multidisciplinary non-profit organization for all who support the development of children from birth to age 5, their families, caregivers, and the professionals who serve them. The Association of Infant Mental Health in Tennessee (AIMHiTN) exists to support infants and young children and the adults who impact their early relational health. A message to Tennessee's doula community 💜

Over the past several years, AIMHiTN has been honored to support doulas through the Doula ECHO, Warmline, and Reflective Practice spaces. Together, we have fostered connection, learning, reflection, and a shared commitment to supporting infants, young children, and families across Tennessee.

Due to recent funding shifts, AIMHiTN will no longer be able to offer these doula-specific programs after June 2026.

While this chapter is coming to a close, our gratitude for the doula community is immeasurable. Doulas play a vital role in supporting parents, strengthening early relationships, and promoting the wellbeing of families during some of life's most important transitions.

We are deeply thankful for everyone who participated, shared their expertise, and helped build these spaces over the years.

We hope to stay connected and look forward to welcoming members of the doula community into other AIMHiTN opportunities in the future.

Thank you for the care, advocacy, and support you bring to Tennessee families every day.

TN IECMH ECHO for Doulas: Transitions, Impact, and Reflection

Date: June 15, 2026

Time: 12:00pm CST / 1:00pm EST

Doulas and birth workers frequently find themselves holding space for vulnerable, emotionally charged moments where hard conversations can arise. This session focuses on how to remain present and grounded while navigating discussions related to fear, unmet expectations, and shifting birth experiences. Using an attachment-informed lens, participants will explore how to respond with empathy while maintaining clear roles and boundaries. The session will offer practical tools for regulating your own nervous system and supporting families in a way that honors both connection and emotional safety.

Presentation is followed by collaborative opportunities to discuss best practices and strategies regarding maternal and infant mental health, share feedback, and offer support.

This virtual community is open to and free for doulas in Tennessee!

Pre-registration required.

Supporting Child Welfare professionals and Foster Parents

June 9th & 10th 2026

8:30-3:30 CST

Presenters: Riann Proctor, LCSW, IECMH-E and Flor Abarca, BA, IMH-E

Facilitating Attuned Interactions is a model from the Erikson Institute that promotes self-awareness of providers and increased attunement to caregivers that results in improved professional/parent relationships and improved service recipient outcomes. FAN has been a core framework for pediatricians, mental health clinicians, foster parents, home visitors, and child welfare professionals across the US. The model emphasizes slowing down interactions with service recipients to increase focus on relationships, which has been shown through research to decrease the amount of time for families to reach their identified goals. FAN is a huge asset to a number of TN's workforce sectors, and we're so excited to bring this opportunity to child welfare.

Supporting young children and families is meaningful work—but it can also be emotionally demanding work.

The moments of connection, patience, reflection, and consistency may not always be visible, but they matter deeply.

Across Tennessee, professionals continue showing up every day to help create environments where children feel safe, supported, and understood.

This Mental Health Awareness Month, we also want to recognize the wellbeing of the people doing that work.

05/28/2026

In infant and early childhood mental health, we recognize that mental health begins long before children have words for what they feel.

Early relationships, responsive caregiving, and supportive environments all help shape how children experience safety, connection, and regulation over time.

Small moments matter.
Consistent relationships matter.
Feeling understood matters.

That’s why supporting young children also means supporting the adults and communities around them.
