Fresh produce plays a vital role in maintaining a healthy body and mind, yet for families facing food insecurity, it is one of the hardest things to consistently access. This National Fruit and Vegetable Month, Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee is proud to be part of the solution. Through programs such as Project Grow and Farm To Families, we're connecting neighbors across Middle and West Tennessee with the fresh, nutritious food they need to feel empowered and thrive.

Thinking about donating to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee? We love your generosity! While everyone has the best intentions, some items aren't safe to distribute. Before your next drop off or food drive, here is what to keep in mind:

➡️ Badly Dented Cans - When cans become damaged, we can't guarantee the safety of the food inside!

➡️ Unlabeled Items - Without the list of ingredients or nutation label, we aren't able to send it out to our neighbors!

➡️ Open Packages - If any food is opened before being donated, we cannot safely distribute it!

Every item counts, so take a moment to check your donations before putting them in the bins!

This past Saturday, our annual Ode to Otha event was filled with great food, amazing music, and an even more amazing community. Thanks to everyone who came out to support us and celebrate the life and legacy of Otha Turner, we raised 156,000 meals for neighbors across Middle and West Tennessee facing food insecurity. Every dollar, every bite, every moment shared together makes a difference. Thank you for being part of our mission to nourish and empower people so they can thrive.

Low cost and free school meal programs provide important food safety nets for the over 118,000 Middle and West Tennessee children living with food insecurity. When school lets out, many lose access to the free meals they depend on every week, and families suddenly need to provide an extra 10 meals per child.

Right now, through June 30th, thanks to a generous group of donors, every $1 you donate to Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee will be DOUBLED, up to $400,000. Your gift has the power to make a twice the impact in our community.

As comes to a close, we are sharing important resources for you and your loved ones.

Frequent uncertainty about where your next meal will come from can fuel stress, anxiety, and depression in both adults and children. These mental health struggles don't just make daily life more challenging, they make physical recovery harder, creating a cycle that's difficult to break.

Take time to check-in with those around you, give yourself grace, and remember you are never alone.

Recently, we were excited to welcome the 2026 Titans rookie class to our warehouse for an incredible volunteer shift. With their hard work, they were able to pack 2,380 meals and 595 bags for our neighbors facing food insecurity in Middle and West Tennessee.

We're so grateful to be a part of a community that comes together to help tackle food insecurity and support our neighbors. Thank you, Tennessee Titans, for your unwavering support and commitment to fighting hunger.

Fighting hunger is not a one-person job. At Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee, every department, every role, and every person on our team is working toward the same goal: to nourish and empower people so they can thrive.

In honor of World Hunger Day, we asked some of our staff how their jobs fight hunger. Meet some of the faces behind our work, who show up every day to provide food to our neighbors.

Brittany Boyer's relationship with Second Harvest started as a donor, but it didn't take long for her to realize her time was just as valuable to give. Nearly three years and over 100 hours later, she's one of the most well-rounded contributors we have. That's why we're thrilled to name her as our Volunteer of the Month!

Brittany's volunteer journey has taken her from a Partner Agency, to shifts in our warehouse, to volunteering at our Mobile Markets, where she gets to see the food sorted at the distribution center actually reaching people in the community. For her, that connection matters. Food access has always been her charity of choice because food is a human right, and ensuring everyone can meet their basic needs is something she takes seriously.

Her involvement runs deeper than volunteering, though. Through Friends of the Food Bank, Brittany has become a Board Intern, giving her a behind-the-scenes view of how Second Harvest operates and how donations of time and money flow into the mission. She's also a proud fan of Project Preserve, and appreciates how Second Harvest's social enterprise model allows us to manufacture product and support other food banks, a testament to what a highly equipped volunteer base can accomplish.

Thank you for your dedication to Second Harvest, Brittany!

Three-year-old Messiah is ready for summer for one very important reason: fresh strawberries.

He loves picking out fruit with his mom, Kassie, at Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee's Mobile Market and recently polished off two containers of strawberries all by himself. “He likes to eat a lot,” Kassie says. “Especially fruit.”

As a single mom of two, Kassie looks forward to having fresh, healthy food for her kids during the summer months when school is out. For families across Middle and West Tennessee, access to nourishing produce can make all the difference in helping children grow, play, and thrive!
