A whistleblower just revealed what DOGE planned to do to 2.7 million living people.

Declare them dead.

Not metaphorically. In the Social Security Administration's Death Master File -- the database banks, employers, and government agencies use to determine whether someone is alive. Once you're in it, your wages stop. Your bank accounts freeze. Your credit disappears. Your benefits end.

The plan, according to former SSA executive Jeremiah Schofield, was explicit. DOGE official Jon Koval stated the goal directly: people would either self-deport, or they would show up at a Social Security office to prove they were alive -- and get arrested by ICE.

"That call was one of the most disappointing calls I've been in in my 25-year career," Schofield told the Washington Post. "I was shocked. I couldn't believe what I was hearing."

Schofield refused to implement it. Agency lawyers warned it would violate federal law. The 2.7 million plan was stopped.

But when Schofield sampled those 2.7 million names, he found U.S. citizens. Lawful permanent residents. Teenagers. Senior citizens. A widow receiving survivor benefits.

And a smaller version already happened -- 6,100 immigrants were marked dead last year. Some showed up at Social Security offices to prove they were alive.

Senators Warren and Blumenthal are demanding answers and records preservation today.

Here is what you need to understand: the Death Master File doesn't ask what country you came from. Anyone with a Social Security number is in it. If this administration is permitted to use this weapon against immigrants, the weapon exists for anyone.

A 25-year civil servant said no. That's the only reason it stopped.

THIS IS AWESOME: Governor Gretchen Whitmer just secured free breakfast and lunch for every single student in the state of Michigan. Every child deserves to learn without worrying about whether they will have enough to eat that day.

This is what Democratic leadership looks like: lowering costs for families, supporting students, and making sure parents don’t have to choose between groceries, school meals, and other bills. Meanwhile, Republicans across the country have fought efforts just like this.

Governor Whitmer is showing the country how it’s done. Democrats are fighting for working families and kids. Republicans are standing in the way. Like and share if you believe every student in America deserves free breakfast and lunch.

This is literally how things are supposed to work, and Progressives like me (and plenty of others who are way more prominent) have been screaming about this for years (Bernie Sanders anyone?!?)

In fact, think about what the entire COUNTRY could have looked like and accomplished had Bernie not been railroaded out of the Dem nomination in 2016! It baffles me how anyone is still out here hating on progressive liberals when what we advocate for and do THROUGH ACTION directly benefits the exact people throwing so much shade.

Progressives aren’t just a bunch of mind numbing word salad (Donald J. Trump anyone?!?) Progressives actually DO the things they say they’ll do.

Vote for progressives.

Disgusting and reprehensible

Eliminating the only majority-Black congressional district in Tennessee wasn’t enough.

Republicans REMOVED every Democrat—and EVERY Black member—in the Tennessee State House from their committee assignments for fighting back against partisan gerrymandering.

This move will leave nearly 2 million people without representation in Tennessee’s legislative and budgetary processes.

Disgusting, racist, and undemocratic.

Kevin González was 18 years old. He had stage 4 colon cancer. He was a US citizen, born in Chicago.

When his parents — who live in Mexico — tried to cross the border to be with their dying son, ICE detained them in Arizona.

Emergency visas were denied. Humanitarian requests were denied.
Kevin checked himself out of the University of Chicago Medical Center and flew to Mexico to find them. He died on Mother's Day, one day after they finally held each other again.

His father said: "Just to see my son, I would jump a wall, go through barbed wire. I would give my life for him."

We know some of you are exhausted with "just vote Democrat" as the answer to stories like this. That frustration is legitimate — Democrats have not been blameless on immigration, and primaries matter enormously.

But here's what's also true: the people who detained Kevin's parents while he was dying are Republicans. The policies enabling it were signed by Republicans. The judges being appointed to lock this in are Republican appointees.

Voting is not the ceiling of resistance. But in November, it is the floor.

Kevin held on until he could hold his mother one last time. The least we can do is show up.
