Negaunee TWP Fire/EMS

Please everyone in the area take this under serious advisement!

Our department spent most of today on scene to help protect possible threatened structures, this fire grew immensely over the weekend. A huge thanks to the Michigan DNR and Ishpeming Township Fire and Rescue for their hard work!

We will try to keep the public updated but the Michigan DNR website is the best place to monitor updates, so please refer to their website.

Officials have updated the current “Ready, Set, Go!” status for residents located along North Basin Drive to “Set”. Residents in this area are now encouraged to do the following:

⚠️ Monitor local media and emergency alerts
⚠️ Load vehicles with emergency bags and valuables
⚠️ Be ready to leave – conditions can change quickly so be alert and ready to act

The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office has established an evacuation center at Negaunee Township Hall, located at 42 East State Hwy M-35 in Negaunee. The Red Cross will be assisting evacuees and their pets at this location

Additional updates will be provided if the fire progresses to the point that triggers the “Go!” status.

At approximately 4:10 yesterday afternoon we were dispatched to a report of smoke showing off of County Road 510 near North Basin drive.With the guidance from a Michigan DNR plane spotter we were able to locate a brush fire approximately 2-3 acres in size west of County Road 510 north of North Basin Drive near the Noquemenon Trail. Upon size up DNR Fire crews were dispatched to our area along with air support from the Michigan State Police helicopter which many people saw filling a drop tank near the Dead River basin. We turned control of the scene over to the Michigan DNR and returned to station around 630pm.

Around 8:45pm last night we were dispatched to a structure fire on M35, upon arrival crews found heavy fire and smoke from a single story structure. We were assisted on scene by Negaunee City Fire, Marquette Township Fire, Marquette County Rescue 131, MSP, and UP Health Systems. It is always great seeing our friends and neighbors come together to get the job done. Thank you to everyone for their hard work!!!

Last night we did a rural water supply training with the use of our 2 drop tanks and portable pumps!

Thank you to the Caspian-Gaastra fire department for hosting the 131st UP Firefighter Tournament!!Congratulations to the West Iron County Fire Department on another win. It's always great seeing our friends from departments all over the UP get together for some great food, lots of laughs and a ton of fun!!!

Thankyou to Negaunee Firefighters Association and Ishpeming Township Fire and Rescue for putting on a night of practical skills for the fire class. The students learned some search tactics, ventilation, and hose movement/suppression.

On Saturday the Marquette County firefighter class got a chance to learn vehicle extrication. Big shout out to Brett Anttila from Anttila's Towing for all the vehicles he supplied for our students. Thank you to Marquette County Rescue 131, and Ishpeming Twp Fire for coming out to help teach also.
