As we transition from Overdose Awareness Month into Recovery Month, there is one voice in Delaware’s addiction recovery community that simply demands your attention: Penny Rogers.

Penny will be the first to tell you that her voice is part of a much larger collective, but for this piece, we wanted to capture her personal perspective and powerful insights directly.

Take a few minutes to read an op-ed that we wrote with Penny, recently featured in the Delaware State News, as we examine what it truly takes to shift the conversation around overdose and recovery in our state.

Thank you, Penny, for leading with such courage, vulnerability, and heart. Keep shining and keep going!

After losing her son and daughter to overdoses, Face the Facts Delaware co-founder Penny Rogers calls on Delawareans to turn awareness into action.

Investing in the future of our youth. 💙🐓💡
Opioid Commission Member Julia Lawes and Director Brad Owens visited Sean’s House in Newark, DE to connect with University of Delaware students and discuss how opioid settlement resources can make the biggest impact.

Sean’s House provides a safe haven for youth and is an incredible free resource center dedicated to mental health support and addiction prevention. Listening to student ideas on how to expand these services is key. Thank you to everyone who joined the conversation! 😁

This past weekend, our team was proud to stand with the Seaford community for the 3rd Annual Community Day of Healing & Restoration—marking the official public launch of the Nutter Park Prevention Hub! 🎉

We are honored to fund this place-based prevention initiative alongside key local partners: the Seaford Police Department, OUTLOUD Delaware, and the Sussex County Health Coalition.

At the event, Commission Director Brad Owens spoke about our core commitment to supporting projects like this—where diverse stakeholders come together around one table to turn a shared vision into lasting, local impact.

Why the Nutter Park Prevention Hub Matters: Substance misuse prevention isn't just about treatment after a crisis—it's about creating safe, supportive environments before a crisis ever happens. Settlement funds invested here are directly supporting:

📚 Youth mentorship and life-skills workshops
🛡️ Overdose prevention, Narcan training, & community support
🏀 Safe park upgrades and recreational space
🚐 A new Mobile Prevention Hub trailer bringing resources directly to families

This project shows what’s possible when opioid settlement funding, local law enforcement, and community advocates join forces.

Thank you to Chief Marshall Craft Jr., Mayor Matthew MacCoy, OutLoud LLC., the Sussex County Health Coalition, and every neighbor who came out to celebrate. Together, we’re transforming settlement dollars into real hope and protection for Delaware youth! 💙
