How do we thoughtfully and respectfully do better at discussing political issues with those we disagree with? Most of us know that building trust and making positive connections with our co-workers, neighbors, family, and friends make it easier to engage effectively in difficult conversations, but sometimes the moment still gets the better of us. Join SURJ NYC on January 28 from 6:30-9pm eastern for our Workshop on Building Calling In Skills & Capacity to strengthen our skills and effectiveness by deepening our understanding of the Calling In process and reflecting on our own experiences. 🚨ACTION ALERT 🚨 🚨

Nearly a DECADE after killing unarmed in front of his 4-month-old baby and teen stepdaughter, NYPD Officer Wayne Isaacs is trying to get away with murder – again.

For over 9 years, Isaacs and his lawyers have used every trick in the book to shield him from facing any consequences. Just two weeks before Isaacs’ long-overdue discipline trial, Isaacs and his lawyers filed a motion to dismiss the charges, arguing Isaacs was acting as a civilian (not a cop) when he shot Delrawn. This contradicts all of their previous arguments that Isaacs was acting as a cop — which is why the City had to foot the bill for his civil suit settlement to the Small family and the AG prosecuted him for murder. While the NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Trials fell for their antics, the final decision falls to Commissioner Jessica Tisch – she must see through their hypocrisy and do right by Delrawn’s family.

Tell , do your job: uphold the charges, let the discipline trial proceed as scheduled on November 19-21, and !

We at the Beyond Policing Working Group of SURJ NYC are disgusted with Commissioner Tisch’s cowardly decision yesterday. When appointed by Mayor Adams, Commissioner Tisch promised to strengthen discipline against NYPD misconduct but it is clear this was a front to gain credibility as a “reformer.”

If she truly held the NYPD accountable, she would take the recommendations from the Civilian Complaint Review Board and her own Deputy Commissioner of Trials Rosemarie Maldonado, and fire Lt. Rivera for killing Allan Feliz.

If she is truly serious about public safety, she would remove individuals from the NYPD who are a clear threat to that safety and a danger to her constituents.

But Commissioner Tisch condones state violence through this reversal in a cynical move to gain favor with the NYPD, all in pursuit of her own future political ambitions.

The Feliz family has been showing up for five long years, demanding accountability, demanding justice for the death of their beloved Allan. We at BPWG continue to support these demands. In fact, we further demand that since Commissioner Tisch has abdicated her responsibility to the citizens of New York City, that the authority to determine police discipline be removed from the office of Police Commissioner due to corruption.

It’s time for NYC’s leaders to stand up for their constituents, not bow down and capitulate to the violent, corrupt purveyors of state violence.

ACTION ALERT 🚨We are going ALL OUT FOR !

Almost SIX years ago, NYPD Officer Jonathan Rivera shot Allan Feliz point blank during an unjust traffic stop. Despite racking up multiple misconduct allegations and lawsuits since, the NYPD ludicrously promoted Rivera to lieutenant and NYPD Commissioner Tisch wants to let Rivera walk without facing any discipline for killing Allan. This cannot stand!!

Rally with the Feliz family to demand stop protecting killer cops and !
