🌱COMPOST ACTION ALERT🌱

Huge thanks to all who participated in last week’s Community Input Hearing on proposed renovation plans at Queensbridge Baby Park. Again, we’re overwhelmed by the support we’ve received for protecting the Big Reuse compost site which has operated just next to the park for years, turning food scraps and yard waste from all over NYC into restorative compost that goes back into our city’s soil.

There is still time to share your input with the Parks Department. FOLLOW THE LINK IN OUR BIO to a form where you can fill out your ideas for the renovation plans, which absolutely can and should include this essential compost site.

Let Parks know that displacing the site will cost more tax-payer money than finding a new location for their parking lot and will further the harm done to our city’s composting networks during the pandemic.

It’s about time the City prioritizes the health of our climate and our neighbors by honoring all the grassroots work being done to make compost accessible. Uprooting this site strains the entire composting ecosystem that relies on this space, one of the largest sites left in the city, to process organic waste that would otherwise end up in a landfill polluting the air rather than cleaning it.

We will continue to make our voices heard until we secure a long-term license to operate in this space and we will continue to advocate for composting in public parks. Join us!
