We enjoyed tricks and treats at Woodside Houses’ senior Halloween celebration in partnership with Samaritan Daytop Village. Residents took part in a costume contest and haunted house, while my team shared information on Participatory Budgeting Cycle 15. Thanks to everyone who shared their PB ideas!

As SNAP cuts threaten millions of New Yorkers across the city, we attended the grand opening of The Fortune Society’s food pantry in Long Island City. In addition to supporting our food insecure neighbors, the organization provides housing and jobs assistance for families in need and support for formerly incarcerated individuals as they reenter society. Thank you to the Fortune Society team for your work during this crucial time.

Over the last two years, my team and I listened closely to what our neighbors wanted in the OneLIC Neighborhood Plan. Because of that community input and disciplined negotiations, we secured nearly $2 billion in historic investments for Long Island City: funding a connected waterfront, reclaiming a park under the Queensboro Bridge, adding over 1,300 new school seats, upgrading sewage and plumbing infrastructure, investing in NYCHA, and more.
These wins were only possible because I could negotiate directly on behalf of our community. If ballot proposals 2 through 4 pass, local leaders like me will lose that power and neighborhoods like ours will once again bear the brunt NYC’s housing construction, which will only benefit developers, not community.
ICYMI: Pix 11 helped share the story earlier in the week when Con Ed refused to provide waterfront access. On Wednesday morning before the OneLIC subcommitee vote, Con Ed informed my team and I that they would provide us the land for free - we will finally have a connected waterfront from Queensbridge Park to Gantry Park. Watch the full interview here or on Pix 11 news.

With this plan, Long Island City can finally be one - without segregation through physical barriers. We can finally bring socioeconomic diversity through MIH options 1 & 3 along with deeply affordable housing units so working class people can live with dignity.
