Also known as Little Flower, Fiorello LaGuardia is regarded as one of the best mayors of NYC. His accomplishments as mayor include unifying NYC’s transit system into a single, publicly – owned system, establishing LaGuardia Airport, expanding public housing and other infrastructure during the Great Depression and WWII. He strongly supported FDR’s New Deal programs, expanding social welfare services and public markets. His policies inspired many, including NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani.
