Brotherson, Mr. Fazal Yussuff, Advisor Investment and Diaspora Affairs, and staff members of the Consulate General of Guyana in New York attended Schenectady’s Flag Raising Ceremony and Reception commemorating Guyana's 60th Independence Anniversary at Schenectady City Hall

Today the Consulate General of Guyana in New York and the Permanent Mission of Guyana to the United Nations hosted a Flag Raising Ceremony and Reception in observance of Guyana’s 60th Independence Anniversary at the Helen Marshall Cultural Center, Queens Borough Hall. In attendance were Ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues- Birkett, Permanent Representative of Guyana to the United Nations, Ambassador Michael E. Brotherson, Consul General of Guyana in New York, members of the Diplomatic and Caribbean Consular Corps, New York State, City and District Officials, Members of the Judiciary and hundreds of Diasporans. As part of a series of commemorative activities for Guyana's 60th Independence Anniversary organized by the Consulate General of Guyana in New York, a giant Golden Arrowhead is being flown intermittently on May 25 and 26 over New York City. More photos will follow in the coming days.

Today, a team from the Consulate General of Guyana in New York participated in the observance of Guyana’s 60th Independence Anniversary organised by the Church of St. Mark Episcopal, Crown Heights, Brooklyn. The delegation was led Consul Nacifa Watson and included Ms. Leanna Paul, Vice Consul and Ms. Vanessa Ward, Executive Officer.

Today, Saturday 23 May 2026, the Consulate General in New York, in an effort to assist Diasporans in far-flung areas, facilitated dozens of residents from Schenectady Upstate New York, to apply for their new biometric passports. The Consulate General’s initiative in this regard is in consonance with the Government of Guyana’s overall efforts to provide timely and efficient services to our nationals at home and in the diaspora, especially where there is any difficulty.
