CUFFH was on the scene this morning outside the 79th Precinct in Brooklyn, where NYC Council Member Chi Ossé and four others were arrested while trying to stop a deed theft eviction. CM Ossé was pushed to the ground by NYPD officers, and along with the others sustained injuries as a result of his treatment by the NYPD.
Black homeowners are routinely targeted by deed theft schemes in Central Brooklyn, and we must do more to prevent our communities from losing their homes — that’s why we’re calling on Governor Hochul to IMMEDIATELY enact an eviction moratorium for deed theft cases.

New Yorkers are done putting up with bad landlords.
Housing is a human right and CUFFH was proud to partner with the NYC Mayor’s team to hold a Manhattan Rental ripoff hearing.
We must fight to ensure every resident has access to quality and affordable housing.

CUFFH showed up and showed out.
We help lead and stood with thousands in the largest protest in NYC history—fighting for people over billionaires and democracy over autocracy.

We were proud to join the 1199 Housing Forum and share the work we’re doing at CUFFH to support tenants and strengthen our communities.
It was an honor to connect with members, provide information about our services, and stand alongside partners committed to housing justice. Together, we’re building power, protecting tenants’ rights, and making sure our communities have the resources they deserve. ✊🏽🏠
Thank you to everyone who stopped by to learn more and to the organizers for bringing people together for such an important conversation!

Yesterday, CUFFH was present at the Rental Ripoff Hearing in the Bronx. 🏢✊🏾
As reminds us, “The most powerful tenants are the ones who know their rights and are connected to their neighbors.”
We’re proud to stand alongside tenants across the city to demonstrate our collective power and demand real accountability. Thank you to our coalition partners who made this hearing possible and who continue to hold the new mayoral administration accountable to those who gave them that power — the people. ✊🏽🏠

Today we showed up strong in Albany for the CARE4IF Lobby Day!🏛️✊🏽
Advocates, community members, and organizers came together to meet with legislators and push for a full $175 million investment for the Office of New Americans (ONA) in the FY27 budget With the Assembly and Senate one-house budgets already meeting our ask, today was about making sure this funding stays in the final budget and does not get negotiated down.
We had powerful conversations with AM Jo Anne Simon ( ), AM Latrice Walker ( Sen. Zellnor Myrie ( ), AD Maritza Davila (), AM Claire Valdez (), and AM Marcela Mitaynes ()**, lifting up the needs of immigrant communities across New York. Thank you to these leaders and their teams for taking the time to meet with us and discuss the importance of sustaining this critical investment.
Special thanks to AM Mitaynes, AM Claire Valdez for their leadership and partnership, and to all of the organizers, advocates, and community members who made today possible. 💙
We had a successful and energizing day of advocacy, reminding our elected officials that immigrant communities deserve resources, protection, and opportunities to thrive. Now we keep the pressure on to ensure the full $175 million for the Office of New Americans - along with the ARA and BUILD Acts— makes it into the final budget.
When we organize together, our voices are impossible to ignore.
