Grateful to NYS Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins for making time to meet with , , and to discuss our top priority: Francesco’s Law.
This critical safe storage legislation would require gun owners to securely store fi****ms when not in use, including in homes with children, helping prevent unintentional shootings, youth su***de, and gun theft. It’s a simple, proven step that saves lives and keeps families safe.

We’ve been standing with survivors and advocates in Albany—including surviving mother Diana Cochran—fighting hard to pass a stronger safe storage law: Francesco’s Law.
When Diana’s son Francesco was in crisis at 17, he was able to access an unsecured gun and took his own life. No family should have to endure this preventable loss.
Even in a leading state like New York, gun violence remains the leading cause of death for children. That’s unacceptable.
We’ve been pushing hard in Albany—but we need your help.
Call your legislators and the Governor and urge them TODAY to pass Francesco’s Law (A.1962/S.3385).

Dangerous political lies won’t save our kids. Action will.
While Trump takes false victory laps on crime, gun violence remains the leading cause of death for American children. We’re not waiting on Washington.
In New York, we’re fighting for real solutions.

📢 Support Francesco’s Law — stronger safe storage requirements. Real accountability. Real protection for families.

Today we honor a powerful step toward justice for the survivors, families, and the entire Buffalo community impacted by the racist mass shooting at Tops on May 14, 2022.

After years of courage and advocacy, secured a $1.75M settlement with Mean Arms and helped remove a dangerous firearm accessory from the market in New York — a meaningful victory rooted in accountability and prevention.

We are especially proud to have stood alongside — from Buffalo, to Albany, to NYC, and even at the White House — united in the fight for safer communities and in unwavering support of survivors. Her leadership and courage continue to move this work forward.

Thank you also to the commitment and vigilance of the Law Office of John V. Elmore, P.C., and to our national partners and for standing shoulder to shoulder with Buffalo in pursuit of justice.
Buffalo’s resilience is unmatched. Together, we continue turning pain into purpose — fighting for accountability, honoring those we lost, and building a future free from gun violence. 🖤✊🏾

In these violent, polarized times, so many people feel helpless and in crisis. And when people feel powerless, some turn to a gun for protection or control—even though guns dramatically increase the risk of su***de, mass shootings, community violence, and unintentional tragedy.

👉 TAKE ACTION NOW: sign the petition (link in bio) urging New York State legislators to pass Francesco’s Law for Safe Gun Storage in 2026.

Francesco was just 17 years old when he died by su***de after accessing an unsecured shotgun. He had been relentlessly bullied for being bisexual. Like so many firearm su***des, his death was impulsive—and preventable. A strong safe gun storage law could have saved his life.

Safe gun storage laws work. They create a critical barrier between moments of crisis and irreversible harm—especially for kids and teens.

✍️ By signing, you’re honoring Francesco’s memory and helping protect young people across New York. We owe it to him. And to every family who deserves safety at home.

I want to be very clear about what we all saw in Minneapolis this weekend.
Alex Pretti was peacefully protesting. He was helping another human.
Every video shows that.

Yet Trump and the same politicians who have spent years pushing more guns into public spaces and weakening gun safety laws are now pointing to the mere presence of a firearm to justify his killing. That contradiction is not just dishonest — it is deadly.

The truth matters. Alex was holding a phone, not a gun. He was trying to help someone who had been pepper-sprayed. He was then sprayed, tackled, restrained, and any firearm he may have had was removed. Only after that was he shot multiple times and killed by ICE.

The Trump administration is claiming this murder was justified by an “immediate threat.”
That is false.

Under Minnesota and federal law, lawful gun possession alone is not a threat and never justifies lethal force. In New York, we’ve chosen a different path — we restrict public carry and prohibit guns at protests because public safety demands it.

You can’t push guns into public spaces and then use lawful possession to excuse the killing of a disarmed, peaceful protester.
You can’t have it both ways.
And when the government tries, people die.
Alex Pretti’s death was preventable. We condemn this killing, demand accountability, and refuse to stay silent.
We stand with the Pretti family and the people of Minneapolis.
Share the facts. Spread the truth.

For more than 30 years, NYAGV has delivered real gun safety results—helping pass some of the strongest gun laws in the nation by centering survivors and working with New Yorkers statewide. In 2026, we’re ready to do it again. 💪
Last week, we stood with District Attorneys, legislators, advocates, and survivors as Governor Hochul committed to advancing strong gun safety laws this year. We’re grateful for that leadership. Now the legislature must act.
Our 2026 agenda includes:
🔒 Francesco’s Law for safe gun storage
🖨️ Stopping 3D-printed ghost guns
💰 No taxpayer dollars for bad gun dealers
🚫 Closing loopholes that turn handguns into machine guns
At a moment when federal leadership is failing, New York must lead. Gun violence is not inevitable—and common-sense laws save lives. Stand with us and help keep New York safe.

Gun violence is gun violence — no matter who pulls the trigger.

We are outraged and heartbroken by the killing of Renee Nicole Good, a mother and community member who was shot and killed by an ICE agent. This was not an accident. This was not inevitable. This was gun violence carried out by a government actor.
Too often, conversations about gun violence exclude the harm caused by law enforcement and federal agencies. That silence is dangerous. When armed agents use deadly force against civilians, it must be named for what it is — state-sanctioned gun violence — and met with accountability, not excuses.

Every person deserves to come home alive. No badge, agency, or uniform should place anyone above the basic expectation of restraint, transparency, and justice.
We stand with Renee’s loved ones and community in demanding a full, independent investigation and real consequences.

Say her name. Demand accountability.

Gun violence isn’t inevitable. In 2026, NYAGV is fighting for real solutions that save lives:

🔒 Safe gun storage to protect ALL New Yorkers

🖨️ Stopping 3D-printed ghost guns before they spread

💰 Responsible state purchasing—no taxpayer dollars for bad gun dealers

🚫 Closing loopholes that turn handguns into machine guns

These are common-sense policies that keep families and communities safe. New York can—and must—lead.

Federal funding cuts are forcing NYC nonprofits to scale back services that communities rely on for safety, healing, and support. Some organizations have laid off staff or reduced programming after losing major Department of Justice grants. This is what underfunding prevention really looks like.Link in bio to read the full article.
