Personally, I don't think there's anything wrong with most of the trees they're cutting down that were supposedly damaged by Sandy. It's been 3 years, the trees are still standing and they're alive and had plenty of leaves this past summer. Some branches are definitely dead and many trees have been significantly pruned. I just don't believe that every. single. tree. on the north side of Pioneer inside the park is so badly damaged that they all need to be removed. Unfortunately many trees are down already but there are still many that are marked for removal, and I'd like to see the Parks Dept arborist's inspection report.
EXCLUSIVE: Push for new tree regs after Brooklyn man's death The Parks Department would be required to use certified arborists for routine work.

RIP Jing Liu. I hope your family gets something from the contractor for their loss and suffering.

WEATHER UPDATE:
Picnic is on!!!! Meet you in the central plaza!
WEATHER UPDATE: it looks like it will rain tomorrow morning. If it's still raining by Noon, we will postpone the picnic until next weekend. I will post an update tomorrow, but if it's raining at noon, assume that the picnic will NOT happen tomorrow.
The count down has started...the park is supposed to open tomorrow (Saturday) and the picnic is still on for Sunday!

Can anyone tell me what these concrete platforms are? Right in front of the rose garden at the park entrance? There are more throughout the park. My hope is that they are NOT bbq grill locations, because this is almost exactly where we said they don't make sense, and Marty/Parks Dept said they would relocate them. Moving them 20 yds doesn't make any sense. Where is the accountability?!

The clock is counting down to the end of June...will Coffey Park be finished by June 28th?
Construction work on Sunday...so much for sleeping in on a holiday weekend.
They are also putting in rather large concrete paved areas that were NOT shown on the one (and only) plan the community was shown. What happened to Truth in advertising? I expect better from our city agencies?
