🚨 BREAKING NEWS!🚨
COBA VICTORY IN ALBANY!
In one of the biggest legislative victories for NYC Correction Officers over the past ten years, COBA has restored the 20-year service retirement benefit for every single COBA Member hired after April 1, 2012, through an agreement reached in the New York State Budget.
COBA President Benny Boscio and Legislative Chairman Daniel Monaco spearheaded a vigorous lobbying campaign to get this critical legislation a “Home Rule Message” from the New York City Council, passage in both the NY State Assembly and the NY State Senate and finally passed in the NY State Budget. This extensive effort required countless trips to Albany and many meetings with legislative leaders at both the city and state levels.
We thank Governor Kathy Hochul, the Bill’s sponsors- Assembly Member Stacy Pheffer Amato, Senator Robert Jackson as well as Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie, Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart Cousins, Members of the NYS Assembly & NYS Senate.
We also thank NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Public Advocate Jumaane Williams, DOC Commissioner Stanley Richards for their support, and all the members of the NYC Council, who voted unanimously to support this Bill.

COBA attended the NYC Department of Correction annual Memorial Day Service at Rikers Island, joining members of service in honoring the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.
From the presentation of colors to the folding of the American flag, the ceremony served as a reminder of the service, sacrifice, and legacy we remember each Memorial Day. COBA was honored to stand alongside NYC’s BOLDEST as we paid tribute to those who gave all.
