Sailors assigned to U.S. Navy Medicine Readiness and Training Command Guantanamo Bay and our new command ombudsman were recognized during an awards ceremony.

Awardees were honored for strong performance in clinical and operational roles, including support to Operation Southern Guard. Their work helped protect migrant well-being, support public health, and meet humanitarian and legal standards.

The Military Health System has launched the Modified Payment and Waiver Program, a new financial safety net designed to support non-beneficiary patients treated at military hospitals and clinics.

The new program offers:
✅ Income-based discounts for qualifying households
✅ Caps on out-of-pocket costs to prevent overwhelming debt
✅ Additional waivers recognizing care that supports military medical readiness
✅ Interest-free payment plans for up to 72 months

“This program is one way we ensure every patient is met with compassion at every step of their experience,” said Keith Bass, assistant secretary of war for health affairs. “If you are facing hardship because of a medical bill from one of our facilities, we are here to support you.”

From classroom to clinic - where curiosity meets purpose! 🔬⚕️

Students from DOWEA W.T. Sampson ES/HS stepped inside U.S. Naval Hospital Guantanamo Bay for a hands-on look at Military Health in action. From examining the eye with a slit lamp to identifying mosquitoes under a microscope and observing a live ultrasound, students explored the science behind patient care and disease prevention.

The visit connected classroom learning to real-world applications and introduced students to the many paths within military medicine.

Tomorrow, the Naval Station community will gather to honor the life of Mr. Phillip Gayle, one of our Special Category Residents.

It was a privilege for our Naval Hospital team - alongside the dedicated caregivers who supported him - to know him and care for him with dignity and respect.

215 years ago, in 1811, Congress established U.S. Navy hospitals! This act appointed The Secretary of the Navy as Superintendent, funded facilities through a 20-cent monthly deduction and personnel fines for all Navy officers, sailors, and marines, authorized the purchase of land, set one daily ration for patients, and outlined the governance of Navy Asylums.

Naval Hospital Guantanamo Bay Welcomes First Baby of the Year U.S. Naval Hospital Guantanamo Bay welcomed its first baby of 2026 on Feb. 18, at 8:43 a.m., as Madison Moreno was born to parents Nickél and John Moreno. The little girl weighs 7 pounds.

Mr. West was a special part of the Guantanamo Bay community, and members of our hospital team had the privilege of knowing and caring for him. We are grateful to the staff, caregivers, friends and loved ones whose steady presence meant so much over time.

As our community comes together to remember him, we stand alongside those who knew him best and honor his life with respect.
