American Board of Perianesthesia Nursing Certification, Inc.
ABPANC develops, sponsors & manages the CPAN® & the CAPA® nursing certifications.
These professional certification programs are designed for RNs caring for patients who have experienced sedation, analgesia & anesthesia in a hospital and ASC setting. ABPANC provides CPAN® and CAPA® Certification for perianesthesia nurses.
CPAN stands for Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse and CAPA stands for Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia Nurse. These certifications are designed for registered nurses caring for patients who have experienced sedation, analgesia and anesthesia.
Big improvements are coming to the ABPANC scholarship program! We're implementing a new scholarship management system that will simplify the application and review process, which means the next application window will open one month later than usual.
We'll share more updates in the coming weeks, and look forward to opening the new application period in early July. Questions? Contact [email protected].

CPAN Certification is available for nurses who are licensed outside of the United States! If you work in a pre- or post-anesthesia setting, this certification is for you.
What does it mean to be certified? It's different for everyone but the most common response we get to that question, is that getting certified is validation of your expertise as a perianesthesia nurse.
