Established in 2005, the awards are named for President Theodore Roosevelt, who led the New York City Board of Police Commissioners from 1895 to 1897 and overcame significant health challenges of his own.

Congratulations to this year’s recipients, and thank you for your unwavering service to our city.

Today, Mounted Unit officers remain a familiar presence in our parks, at parades, and in our communities. They also play a role in counterterrorism.
