Operation 7 Save a Life | ABC7 WABC 01/19/2022

So far this year, there have been three significant fires in New York City & Philadelphia costing 30 people their lives (16 of which were children). The cause of two of these fires, were malfunctioning space heater's in bedroom's and failure of working smoke detectors. In our community we recently had 2-fire's. Luckily no injuries occurred.

Roxbury Volunteer FD can not stress this enough to please check your smoke detectors monthly & replace the batteries every 6 months. Smoke detectors do have an expiration date of 10 years. If your smoke detector is out of date please replace it. If your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors were installed after Sandy, most likely are out dated or will be this year.

To report an emergency call 718-634-2727
The coop will dispatch our Volunteers and notify 911 simultaneously.

Please follow the below listed guidelines for safely operating a space heater
*Keep the heater at least 3 feet away from anything that can burn, including people.
*Choose a heater with a thermostat and overheat protection.
*Place the heater on a solid, flat surface.
*Make sure your heater has an auto shut-off mechanism to turn the heater off if it tips over.
*Keep space heaters out of the way of foot traffic. Never block an exit.
*Keep children away from the space heater.
*Plug the heater directly into the wall outlet. Never use an extension cord.
*Space heaters should be turned off and unplugged when you leave the room or go to bed.

On January 29th at 7pm WABC (Ch.7) will air a special called "operation-7 "Save a life". Please tune in.
