Only a week ago, another home in our community was burned down at the hands of squatters. The time for action is now. Yesterday, I introduced Res. 458 in support of Senator Jessica Scarcella-Spanton’s bill to make squatting a criminal offense in the third degree. Immediately after, I was joined by the cosponsors of Intro. 907 and Res. 458 on the steps of City Hall to call for our colleagues in City Council to help pass these crucial pieces of legislation. I will never stop fighting to keep our city safe and protect our hard-working families.

As a mother, I have always believed that libraries are a crucial element of our children’s education. Today, I joined my colleagues for story time in support of funding our libraries right outside city hall!

Since the idea of congestion pricing was first proposed, the people of South Brooklyn and other car-dependent areas of our city have vehemently opposed this fee on commuters. While areas in Staten Island and South Brooklyn have little access to public transportation, congestion pricing would be an added financial burden on hardworking families already struggling to commute for work. Just this month, I have received messages from constituents reporting more bus stops that have shut down in our community making it nearly impossible for older members of our community to get around.
I applaud Governor Hochul‘s decision to protect the hardworking New Yorkers who do not live in areas of our city with more robust public transit.
This month marks two years since the US Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade and stripped millions of Americans of their reproductive rights as states overturned laws protecting a woman’s right to choose. I am proud to be a New Yorker where we will never waver in our commitment to safeguarding women’s rights.

I was delighted to join my colleagues at City Hall last night to celebrate Pride Month! June is a celebration of not just how far LGBTQIA+ rights have progressed but a reminder of how much farther we have to go so that every New Yorker no matter who they love or how they identify is accepted for who they are.
