Volunteers receive a free meal and all the supplies we need to clean (bags, gloves, etc.)! But we're not looking for donations- we have money!
We get together to clean up public spaces that aren't the direct responsibility of any municipality (usually beaches/waterfronts, hiking trails and public land). Read about past and upcoming events by clicking on "Events"
You can read the story here: https://www.gofundme.com/trashruns. We're looking for VOLUNTEERS to come out and clean trash with us! See how every donated dollar is being spent here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/10dEGG96t1EcfkMg3pFeZsR0ieWgkqr2zosxPLLNJ4dg/edit#gid=0

More amazing work by CENICA (https://www.facebook.com/CENICAnicaragua ) on the shores of lake Cocibolca in Nicaragua March 26, 2021. Sponsored in part by your generous donations to the Trash Runs project! I wish I could be there in person but I'm so glad the clean-up effort continues!

TR50! If you donated to the Trash Runs campaign you can be so proud to know that your contribution has now funded 50 events in over 10 countries on 3 continents!
I just received photos from the ongoing work by CENICA in Nicaragua where TrashRuns donations have continued to support the clean up around Lake Cocibolca as well as the "Dump to Garden" project, in which other unofficial dump sites are being converted to edible forests.

Hello! The "Dump to Garden" events continue in Nicaragua and TrashRuns has sent another $120 USD donation to continue supporting these events, coordinated in part by former TrashRunner extraordinaire, Franco Prego. I was invited to name one of the gardens on behalf of TrashRuns and I chose the name Esperanza (Hope). See photos below of planting the garden- I'm still waiting on photos of the "before" dump site but should be posting those soon!

And here!

Here’s where the most recent $120 USD of donated Trash Runs money went. I will continue to send donated TrashRuns donations as they continue to hold and post photos of their events!
Dump to Garden Help us convert 40 plastic-filled dump sites into community gardens. We’ll educate and partner with the community to maintain the gardens, reduce plastic consumption, and reduce lake contamination.

Hello! Really exciting news to share. When I left Nicaragua in December of 2017 my friend Franco Prego kept the momentum going, working with CENICA a Nicaraguan NGO working on environmental protection to continue our efforts in TrashRunning. Now I am so pleased to report that the initial events have taken place and the program is in place to continue with a program they call "Dump to Garden" in which they are transforming unofficial dumping areas to planted orchards. Donated funds from TrashRuns have been transferred to Franco in Nicaragua to the tune of $240 USD and we will continue to send $120 for each event in support of this mission until the funding runs out! Thank you SO MUCH to all the donors! Your money continues to move (trash) mountains!

Happy World Clean Up Day!
Since returning back to the United States this spring I haven’t posted any TrashRuns updates but I wanted to take a moment today to mention some great news. About a year ago I posted photos from a TrashRun in Bolivia that was organized and carried out by Pascal Wernli, a superstar volunteer who came out to help on several events in Rio de Janeiro and wanted to take the TrashRuns idea and keep it going as he continued with his travels. He and a group of about 10 others did a wonderful job cleaning up the banks of the Rio Chico river in Sucre, Bolivia and you can see the photos here https://www.facebook.com/events/475886352780845/permalink/475888486113965/ .
Pascal has since returned home to Switzerland but his legacy lives on! This Wednesday a group of ~30 local students as well as their parents and teachers will be returning to the banks of the Rio Chico in Bolivia for another community-wide cleanup! Funding to pay for all the gloves, trash bags for the waste collected and drinking water will be provided by TrashRuns! After the event I will post again with pictures of what I’m sure will be another great event. Thank you D. Trevor Hirsche and Kristina Huber for your part in organizing this event and for keeping the TrashRuns legacy alive!
And for anyone wondering, I will pick up where I left off (pun intended 🤓) with more TrashRuns events when I return to Mexico this fall!

Scouting hike from Boca de Tomatlan to Las Animas in Jalisco, Mexico! Thankfully I didn't find a lot of trash. But I still managed to fill a bag along the route!
