Meet Rachel, who puts in extra time and personal care to create spaces where New Destiny tenants feel comfortable, respected, and seen. From organizing teen movie nights to being someone residents can simply talk to, this is what supportive housing work. But chronic underfunding for the New York State Supportive Housing Program ( ), on which the building relies for services, often leaves staff stretched thin and limits what providers can offer. Last year, the state implemented a small increase in funding for the first time in the last 30 years. Thanks to this change, Rachel has been promoted to Senior Case Manager since filming this video. However, the work is not done, we’re calling on and state legislators to invest $62.1M in the FY27 budget to save NYSSHP and protect the 20,000 households who call these buildings home across the state.
Over 5,000 NYers, including more than 1,000 survivors, are about to lose their homes. It doesn’t have to be this way. Sign our letter (link in bio) today to tell , & to fund at $250M in the state budget & pass Senator ’s & Assemblymember ’s S9430A/A10992 so that recipients are eligible. Even with a handshake budget deal, we cannot take the pressure off. Families cannot afford to wait.
Now through May 13th, you have a special opportunity to double your impact and be the reason that survivors of , like Nyla, have a place to live and the stability to heal. Thanks to our partners at and , every dollar you give will be matched, dollar-for-dollar, through May 13th.
