As your Candidate for Senator District 8, I am closely monitoring the LIRR strike. I know this suspension puts an immense strain on our families, commuters, and local economy.
While we navigate this disruption, we must address the root cause, our transit workers deserve to be paid fairly. We cannot expect a world-class transit system if we refuse to provide the fair wages and contracts these hardworking men and women have rightfully earned. I am calling on both sides to reach a fair deal immediately so we can get Long Island moving again.
What SD-8 Residents Need to Know Now:
• Service Suspended: LIRR service is completely halted until further notice.
• Work From Home: Avoid nonessential travel and telecommute if possible to reduce road congestion.
• Shuttles: Limited weekday shuttle buses will run for essential workers who cannot work from home.
• Plan Your Route: Check mta.info for alternate travel guides and shuttle pickup locations.
I stand with our commuters, and I stand with fair labor. Let’s get a fair contract signed.

Thank you to everyone for the incredible outpouring of support over the last few weeks. Because of each and every one of you, we officially surpassed our goal of 150 in-district donors.

This campaign has never been about big money or political insiders. It has always been about people coming together because they believe in a new generation of leadership and a stronger future for our community. Seeing so many friends, neighbors, families and supporters step up means more to me than I can put into words.

I know this movement is proving that young voices belong at the table and that real change happens when people decide to get involved. This milestone is not just a number. It is proof that our message is resonating and that our community is ready to move forward together.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for believing in me and believing in what we can accomplish together. We are just getting started.

So grateful to have attended Spring 2026 Fundraiser 🌷✨

It was incredible seeing such a strong turnout of people who genuinely care about the future of Long Island and are committed to building a more progressive, equitable community. From seeing our awesome candidates running for State Assembly, Congress, and State Senate, to connecting with organizers and supporters, the night was filled with so much energy and hope.

A huge thank you to Holly and the entire Left on Long Island team for organizing such a beautiful event at Touch of Venice. Your work is already making an impact by empowering a new generation of leaders to step up, get involved, and prove that young people deeply care about the issues shaping our communities.

Thank you to everyone who came out, showed support, and took the time to connect with me. This is how we build momentum, together.

Be sure to follow and support the work they’re doing. Let’s keep pushing forward 💙🌊

So grateful to have attended Trish Kopp’s campaign kickoff this week in Islip 💙

The event was beautiful, the energy in the room was incredible, and it was amazing seeing so many people come together to support Trish, Democrats up and down the ballot, and a better future for Long Island.

Trish gave such an inspiring message about leadership, community, and fighting for working families. You can feel the momentum building across Suffolk County as more people get engaged, organized, and ready to make a difference.

Thank you to Trish and her team for inviting me and for spotlighting my campaign. It was such a pleasure meeting so many passionate community members, activists, and local leaders all committed to creating real change.

These events matter. Showing up matters. Organizing matters.

Keep attending local events. Keep getting involved. Keep building community.

Seeing this energy only makes me even more excited for my own campaign kickoff soon 👀

Long Island is ready for a new generation of leadership.

This is what “just buy a starter home” looks like on Long Island.
And it’s why young people are leaving.
We need to start treating housing like the infrastructure it is.
I’m Josh Taveras, running for State Senate in SD-8. Let’s build better.

I caught up with Garrett Peterson at the No Kings rally.

From growing up in Central Islip to working multiple jobs and commuting hours just to get through college, his story is what so many Long Islanders understand.

Now he’s running because he sees what’s happening, rising costs, fewer opportunities, and a future that feels out of reach for the next generation.

Here’s a bit of why he’s running.

Long Islanders pay some of the highest property taxes in the country… so why are our roads falling apart?

Potholes everywhere. Dangerous conditions near schools. This isn’t just inconvenience, it’s a safety issue.

If we’re paying this much, we deserve infrastructure that actually works.

I’m Josh Taveras, running for NY State Senate District 8. Let’s fix this. 🛠️

I hit the No Kings protest in Patchogue to ask one simple question: why are people showing up?
The answers say everything. 👀

I sat down with Jess Murphy — and her story is one so many Long Islanders can relate to.

From Copiague to working 3 jobs just to afford a home in Amityville… she knows firsthand how hard it’s become to live here.

We need leaders who actually understand what our generation is going through.

Give her a follow and support her this June.

Instead of solving homelessness… we design ways to hide it.

Benches you can’t lie on.
Spikes to keep birds away.
And barely anywhere to even sit and wait for the train.

We’re investing in the wrong things.

Senate District 8, meet a leader you need to know. 👇🏽

I sat down with Trish Kopp — a teacher, a mother, and a fierce advocate for our community, to talk about her campaign for State Assembly.

She’s been endorsed by the New York Working Families Party for a reason: she fights for working people, just like we do.

Parts of our districts overlap, which means this race directly impacts you.

🎥 Watch this interview, learn her vision, and make sure you’re ready to vote on November 3rd.

We don’t just build campaigns, we build a movement. 💙
