“I'm proud to help a family get back on their feet.”

At URI, moments like these are why we do what we do.

Dr. Agnes Leong, Director of Client Care, along with our nearly 1,000 compassionate staff, show up every day for our community, offering care when it matters most.

Thank you to our incredible team for making a difference in the lives of New Yorkers in need.

It’s National Pet Month, and the perfect excuse to celebrate our furry friends.

Meet Brandon Lloyd, Director of Government Affairs, a lifelong dog person who’s had 4 dogs over the years. His current sidekick is Nala the Cavapoo.

Same job. Same experience. Same qualifications. Equal pay.

Today, Team URI joined advocates across NYC to rally for and support Int 0452.

Nonprofit human services workers earn 30% less than their City counterparts for comparable work — and we’re calling for change.

No one should have to choose between their safety and their pet. 🐾💛

At Urban Resource Institute, our People and Animals Living Safely (PALS) program ensures survivors can enter shelter with their pets and access the support they need together.

From safe, pet-inclusive spaces to essential supplies and coordinated care, we meet the full needs of the family so healing can begin without separation.

Incredible energy, generosity, and teamwork in action.

A huge thank you to Suffolk Construction for mobilizing their staff across their main office and seven job sites to support Urban Resource Institute families. Together, their team assembled more than 500 essential kits—each one a meaningful reminder that the individuals and families we serve are supported, seen, and not alone.

During National Volunteer Month, moments like this matter even more. We are grateful for partners who turn compassion into action and help us provide safety, stability, and hope.

Last week, Urban Resource Institute closed out Sexual Assault Awareness Month by recognizing Denim Day with a powerful afternoon of reflection and conversation.

Wearing denim was just the start. Together, we took time to learn, listen, and talk about how we can better support survivors and challenge harmful narratives.

Every day, we carry this forward. Building communities grounded in dignity, respect, and support is work that continues every day.

What does the work of Urban Resource Institute look like?

Our team sees it every day, and they describe it best: compassionate, visionary, healing.

Behind every word is a survivor finding safety, a family rebuilding, a future being reimagined.

Kirsten DeFur, Senior Director of Learning at URI, shares what victim-blaming sounds like. And it needs to end.

"Why were you wearing tight jeans?"
"Why were you out so late at night?"
"You shouldn't have been drinking."

Stop shifting accountability for violence onto the person who was harmed instead of the person who caused it.

Instead of judgment, show support:

"How can I help you right now?"
"I believe you and I’m here for you."
