Just behind the Erie Canal Village in Rome are the 1756 earthen remains of a French and Indian War fort. Commonly known as Fort Bull, it is actually the remains of Fort Wood Creek. From 2011 to 2019, the Oneida Carry Research Group worked to clear the wilderness from these remains revealing the forts prominent features. John Carmody, president of the Oneida Carry Research Group, will deliver a PowerPoint presentation entitled “The Curse of Fort Wood Creek.” The presentation will show the results of the group’s efforts and a history of the fort site. But is there a curse? Join us at the Westmoreland Historical Society, 50 Station Rd., Westmoreland, NY., on Thursday, October 15th at 7:00 pm and decide for yourself. This program is free and open to the public.

Limestone Ridge Historical Society

Please join us at the Historical Society on 7 pm on Tuesday Sept 29, for a presentation by John Carmody, of the Oneida Carry Research Group based in Rome. The Carrying Place was a land bridge between the Mohawk River and Wood Creek. Anything transported by boat had to be carried or pulled by humans and animals between the two waterways. The land bridge was an important link, especially during the French and Indian War. Join us to learn more!
As always, there will be refreshments and mingling after the presentation.

By the power vested in me, John A. Carmody, President of the Oneida Carry Research Group, I announce this official proclamation. The stream entering Wood Creek at the Lower Landing Place of that creek will no longer be referred to as Canada Creek. It is now only to be referred to as The Creek Of America. If the POTUS has that power, then the POTOCRG does as well. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Make the Oneida Carry Great Again!
