For years, Greenpoint and Williamsburg residents have fought to complete Bushwick Inlet Park. I've been proud to be part of that fight, allocating critically-needed funds and even leading a community sleep-out in 2016. Now we are taking another major step.
City promises $75M for Bushwick Inlet Park, including long-delayed demolition of CitiStorage site • Brooklyn Paper
The city has allocated a bundle of money toward the fabled completion of Bushwick Inlet Park, promising $75 million for the development of the CitiStorage

“Do your little bit of good where you are; it’s those little bits of good put together that overwhelm the world.”
— Desmond Tutu

The passing of Archbishop Desmond M. Tutu is a heartbreaking loss for our global community.
A champion of civil rights whose voice brought down apartheid in South Africa and advanced the fight for human and economic justice throughout the world, Archbishop Tutu's advocacy resonated across generations, cultures, and communities. His lessons of love, justice, and empowerment have personally inspired me throughout my journey as a public servant.
One quote of his in particular always stays with me: ‘There comes a point where we need to stop just pulling people out of the river. We need to go upstream and find out why they’re falling in.’
Rest in power, Archbishop Tutu.
Desmond Tutu, Whose Voice Helped Slay Apartheid, Dies at 90
The archbishop, a powerful force for nonviolence in South Africa’s anti-apartheid movement, was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984.

This , so close to Christmas, I am always grateful for the good work of the Salvation Army’s Greater New York Division, which was there for me and my family during tough holiday seasons, and I know they will be there for so many families in need. Last year, my office partnered with the Salvation Army’s Greater New York Division to donate 1,000 toys to children at New York City Housing Authority (NYCHA)’s Howard Houses, Tilden Houses, and Van D**e Houses.

Happy Winter Solstice! Today marks the first astronomical day of winter in the Northern Hemisphere, which is also the day with the fewest hours of sunlight in the entire calendar year. The good news is that it also means we’re that much closer to the warmer days of summer.
