"In 2007, a reindeer herder on Siberia's Yamal Peninsula found a baby woolly mammoth lying in the frozen ground. Scientists named her Lyuba. She was only about 30 to 35 days old when she was lost around 42,000 years ago, and her body was naturally preserved in clay and mud.
Her skin and organs survived, and scientists even found traces of her mother's milk in her stomach. Standing about 33.5 inches tall and weighing around 110 pounds, she is one of the most complete baby mammoths ever found, helping researchers understand how these giants grew up.
The bond between a mother and her baby is as old as life itself. Lyuba's story reminds us to protect the little ones in our world, whether they're our children or the animals we share the planet with."
