When a parent seriously ab*ses their own child, should they ever be allowed to regain custody? Some argue that protecting the child must come first and that certain cases may make permanent loss of custody necessary. Others believe the law should consider rehabilitation, the severity of the ab*se, and whether a parent can ever provide a s*fe home again. Should parents who ab*se their children lose custody permanently? Share your thoughts in the comments.

3. Dustin Joel Walker, 35, was sentenced to life in prison for s*xually ab*sing his 11-year-old stepdaughter, who became pregnant and gave birth at home in August 2025. He also received 42 additional years for six counts of child n*gl*ct. The sentences were ordered consecutively, meaning he must serve the 42 years before beginning the life sentence. A DNA test established that Walker was the father of the baby. Prosecutors said the girl had not received medical care for about a year before giving birth. Walker pleaded guilty to the charges in March 2026 and was sentenced June 29. If he is ever released on parole, he will have to register as a s*x offender.

Amanda Lynn Gregorio, 34, was sentenced to 10–40 years in state prison, while Stacey Ann Louder, 53, received 8–30 years for their roles in the ab*se of Gregorio’s daughter. Court records say the girl was restrained to a bed for nearly two months, deprived of food and at times fed cat food. A camera was reportedly used to monitor her while she was restrained. The girl’s letter, read during sentencing, said: “I want you to stay in jail.” Both women pleaded guilty to the charges on May 28, 2026. Prosecutors said the child has improved since being removed from the home and continues to receive tr*uma therapy.

Lindsay Clancy’s m*rder trial ended in a mistrial on Sept. 4 after jurors could not reach a unanimous verdict. At a Sept. 29 hearing, her attorney Kevin Reddington argued that prosecutors had not presented enough evidence to prove Clancy k*lled her three children, saying the case was based on speculation. This marks a shift from the defense’s approach during the trial, when it did not dispute that Clancy k*lled the children but argued she was not criminally responsible because of postpartum psychosis. Prosecutor Shanan Buckingham strongly rejected the new argument, pointing to evidence presented at trial, including DNA found on the exercise bands and testimony about statements Clancy allegedly made. The judge has not ruled on the defense motion, and prosecutors have not decided whether to retry Clancy.

Carlton Lenard Adams of Alabama was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison after pleading guilty to charges involving dogs kept for f*ghting and fi****ms possession. Federal authorities rescued 78 pit bull-type dogs from three properties in Bessemer and Adger in 2023. Investigators said some of the dogs had scars and inj*ries and were living in severely n*gl*cted conditions. Authorities also found equipment associated with dog f*ghting, including modified treadmills, veterinary supplies, steroids, syringes and a device used to separate f*ghting dogs. Two pistols and a semi-automatic sh***un classified under federal law as a destructive device were also recovered. In addition to the 120-month prison sentence, Adams was ordered to pay $548,449 in restitution for the costs of caring for the rescued dogs. The animals were rehabilitated and evaluated for possible adoption.

Norman Dixson, 35, of Griffin, Georgia, was sentenced to two years in federal prison after pleading guilty to sponsoring and exhibiting a dog in an animal-f*ghting venture. Federal prosecutors said evidence from his Facebook and iCloud accounts showed he had been breeding and training dogs for f*ghting since at least 2018. Investigators found images and videos of dogs kept on heavy chains, in makeshift pens and overcrowded crates. Prosecutors also said recordings documented dog f*ghts in which animals suffered serious inj*ries. Separately, Dixson fraudulently obtained more than $170,000 through pandemic relief programs, including Paycheck Protection Program and unemployment benefits. He was ordered to pay $171,069 in restitution and will serve three years of supervised release. He is also prohibited from possessing dogs during that period.

Deborah Sue Culwell was sentenced to a year in jail after pleading guilty to animal cr*elty and animal abandonment charges in connection with seven newborn puppies dumped in a trash bin in Coachella, California. Surveillance video captured Culwell placing a bag containing the puppies into a dumpster outside an auto parts store in April 2019. The puppies were only about three days old. A passerby discovered the bag and contacted police, allowing the puppies to be rescued. Six of the seven puppies survived. Culwell also received three years of probation, and authorities had previously found additional dogs at her home. The case drew attention after the footage showed the puppies being abandoned in hot weather, where they could have d*ed without being discovered.

Colorado Springs police arrested 62-year-old Sheldon “Shelley” Wilson after she allegedly reported her husband’s d*ath months after he d*ed. According to the arrest affidavit, Wilson told police she found her husband unresponsive after he drank alcohol on his birthday in March but did not report his d*ath until September. Investigators who went to her home reportedly discovered a strong odor and containers containing what appeared to be human remains. Police allege Wilson later admitted she had d*smembered her husband months after his d*ath. During the investigation, she reportedly asked, “Can I just plead guilty?” Wilson has been charged with second-degree m*rder, tampering with physical evidence and tampering with a deceased human body. Authorities have not publicly released the victim’s name, and the allegations remain subject to court proceedings.

A former Cornell University student has sued the university and seven members of the Chi Phi fraternity over allegations stemming from an October 2024 incident. Identified as Jane Doe in the lawsuit, she alleges that she was dr*gged and s*xually ass*ulted at the fraternity house after visiting a friend. Her lawsuit also challenges how Cornell handled the disciplinary process afterward. According to the report, Cornell conducted an internal investigation involving multiple hearings. The lawsuit claims that two of the accused students were expelled, while others received lesser disciplinary measures, including suspensions, workshops or essays. Cornell has said it cannot publicly discuss individual students’ disciplinary outcomes because of privacy laws. The Tompkins County District Attorney previously declined to bring cr*minal charges, but the investigation was later reopened.
