Corners Outreach Equipping Metro Atlanta's underserved students of color and their families to lead full lives.

A study from Northeastern University found that high school dropouts cost taxpayers $292,000 over the course of their lives. In the communities where we focus, the Board of Education in DeKalb, Fulton and Gwinnett states that High School graduation is
70% Caucasians, 64% African American, 55% Hispanics, and 35% ESOL. A recent study shows that students who do not read proficiently by third grade are four times more likely to leave high school without a diploma than proficient readers. So we can be most effective in decreasing the dropout rate by tutoring elementary age students and showing parents the value of education. In 2012, we partnered with Berkeley Lake Elementary to begin an education focused program, Corners Academy, which provides after school tutoring as well as a summer camp in Norcross, GA. Soon after we partnered with two other elementary schools, Hightower Elementary and Beaver Ridge Elementary. While building relationships with the parents of our students, we found that many had more than two jobs. In 2017, we started Corners Industries, a career initiative which exists to break cycles of poverty.

As we bring our Hispanic Heritage Month celebration to a close at Corners Outreach Academy Gwinnett, we are so happy that our students enjoyed so many meaningful moments filled with culture, pride, and connection!

From coloring flags representing Latin American countries to enjoying horchata, Mexican bread, and traditional candies, our students celebrated the beautiful cultures and traditions that make our community special! 🇲🇽🌎

At Corners, we believe that our culture is a gift, our language is a strength, and our identity is something to celebrate with confidence. Our team makes sure that every one of our students is reminded of that this month and every day of the year. 💛

❤️ Lester and Flor are proof that small steps can lead to big changes!

Through our English program, they’ve strengthened their skills, advanced to the next level, and both secured higher-paying jobs. But they’re not stopping there! They’ve returned for another semester, Flor has joined our Financial Literacy program, and they even brought friends to Industry Night so they could grow together.

When determination meets opportunity, amazing things happen. We can’t wait to see what’s next for Lester and Flor!

A huge shoutout to for hosting a snack drive for Corners Academy! 💙

Our students go through hundreds of snacks every day, helping them stay fueled, focused, and ready to learn. Thanks to partners like Mölnlycke Healthcare and their dedicated employees, we can continue creating a supportive environment where our students feel cared for and ready to succeed.

Thank you, Mölnlycke, for showing up for our students and investing in our community! We’re so grateful to have you alongside us. 🙌

Last week, we had our Zumba class with Latino Community Fund-LCF and our moms had a blast moving their bodies 💃

They also got the chance to do some medical tests and enjoy a green smoothie 😋

Taking care of our health is an act of love and it allows us to show up the best version of ourselves! Shout out to every mom that showed up ready to be active, learn and take care of herself! ✨

This past Sunday, Corners Outreach was honored to participate in the 6th Annual Latino Hispanic Cultural Celebration, a day filled with music, dancing, traditional clothing, and so much pride in the many countries and cultures represented.

Our Choir students from Corners Academy performed a beautiful concert, singing “Vivir Mi Vida” and “De Colores.” For many of our students, it was their first time performing or even singing in Spanish. Music Director Jeniffer Chow was immensely proud to see her students participate and share what they had learned, sharing, “It was a reminder that music can bring people together across different ages and backgrounds.”

Even our moms and women in Mujeres Imparables participated by taking part in a fashion show, celebrating their heritage with pride. For Corners Academy Director Pilar Garcia, one of the most memorable moments was watching woman after woman and girl after girl walk across the stage, proudly representing their home countries with excitement and love for one another.

This year's Hispanic Heritage Month theme is “Unidos, Somos Más.” At Corners Outreach, we truly believe that. When we come together, honoring our differences while celebrating what connects us, our whole community becomes stronger.

Unidos somos más.
Better together.
