Joe Salerno's Front Porch Father. Husband. Entrepreneur. Former Candidate for Congress Joe Salerno is a lifelong resident of New Jersey who was raised by a family devoted to public service.

His Dad, a World War II veteran and POW, made a career in the VA, while his Mom worked in local schools. Joe was raised with a strong work ethic from a young age, whether it was pumping gas part-time or working double shifts at the machine shop he ran a few years after college. He made time to attend law school in the evenings and focused his studies on the Constitutional history of our republic. Joe built a successful career as a tech entrepreneur, creating hundreds of jobs along the way. Now, he wants to take his experience as a business owner to Washington, using the skills he learned to fight for job creation, fiscal responsibility and greater opportunity for every resident in South Jersey. Joe lives in Lower Township with his wife, Della. They are the parents of four children.

Here is Scott's description of our chat:

"We start with Joe Salerno of Joe Salerno's Front Porch, a fantastic information zone worth checking out. The former candidate for U.S. Congress speaks about the election between Zack Mullock for Congress and Van Drew for Congress and break it down better than probably anyone can because Joe speaks from experience. He also talks about his latest videos analyzing Congressman Jeff Van Drew's criticism against Atlantic City Electric."

On Scott Cronick this week, Rep. Van Drew continued his unfounded attacks on smart meters and Atlantic City Electric. Again, he congratulated himself on his efforts, ""Nobody's done more than I have with the electric companies."

He could have added that no one has achieved less!

We need more electricity. So why hasn't NJ been building new power projects?

Fifteen years ago, Gov. Christie and Senate President Sweeney worked together to encourage in-state power generation, both natural gas and offshore wind.

Then politics happened. Offshore wind became unacceptable to R's and nat gas became unacceptable to D's. While they fought, our electricity supply fell behind growing demand and our prices went through the roof.

So who's really to blame for our sky-high bills? You probably won't like my answer.

First, get your vote in! Then take a moment to fix our electric bills.

Smart meters are not why our bills are high. And cutting back utility profits won't save us more than a few percentage points.

The problem is supply. We have known since at least 2022 that we need new large-scale electricity generation here in NJ. Yet, the ONLY big power plant getting built in NJ right now is in Vineland -- and all 350MW's will go to that massive datacenter.

So, if you want lower rates, what kind of power plant would you build and where? And before you say nuclear, please remember that small modular nuclear doesn't really exist yet.

After two years, a federal audit, a state legislative hearing, a federal field hearing, and reports from multiple investigative journalists -- all of which found no widespread problems with the smart meters -- does anyone beside Rep. Van Drew believe they are the cause of our high electricity bills?

Washington, DC - Today, Congressman Van Drew called on the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to help secure an independent audit of Atlantic City Electric's (ACE) digital smart meters after multiple South Jersey residents reported that their meters continued registering electricity usage e...

Does he not know he is wrong? Or does he know he is wrong but shameless enough to say it anyway?

You may have seen his campaign ad, "When they raised our rates, Van Drew demanded an audit and caught them red-handed." Well, we got that federal audit he fought for. It found errors worth only two cents per household per month!

My two cents: a fight isn't measured by how loudly a politician wages it, but by what it actually accomplishes.

Tom Friedman is always insightful, perhaps never more so than in this opinion piece. So many have given so much in support of American democratic values. How can we let them be dealt away so casually?

The president’s arrangement to import Russian diesel fuel is one more example of how he has sold out American democracy.
