Williams Avenue Elementary Car Lane Drop-Off
Potential Traffic Delays
Due to ongoing construction on the playground/parking lot of Williams Avenue Elementary School, the school's morning drop-off lane will temporarily have to be set up on the street in front of the building. We do anticipate potential traffic delays due to this. Here's what you need to know:
Drop-Off Lane
Line Up Starts at 8:10
The drop-off lane will be a coned and roped off single lane on Williams Ave, directly in front of the school (pictured below). This lane will begin at the driveway on the east side of the school and will be roped off to the crosswalk at Spencer Ave. Parents will be assisted out of the lane by school staff directing traffic at the crosswalk. SRO Town will be onsite assisting school staff in directing traffic for at least the first few days of school while parents get acclimated to this temporary system.
*Parents wishing to utilize the dedicated drop-off lane will have to approach from the east, as the lane is only accessible to westbound traffic on Williams Ave. The crosswalk will still be operating as usual, so eastbound traffic can still park across the street and be assisted across by the school's crosswalk helpers.*
Non-School Traffic
Due to the limited space available for the dedicated drop-off lane, we anticipate that the line may back up and affect regular, non-school traffic. Our recommended best practice will be to simply bypass the area entirely if you are just trying to get through the area to, or from, Montgomery Rd. A map of recommended detours is attached. All side streets in the area are currently open and usable, but the simplest and most direct paths will be on Slane Ave and Cleneay Ave. We do not anticipate any major traffic effects to reach as far as Montgomery Rd.
Timeline
There is currently no exact estimate for when this construction will be completed, but school personnel anticipate this temporary setup being a necessity at least into September.
