Monday, October 12, 2026, is Indigenous People's Day. We recognize the contributions and dignity of Oklahoma's 39 tribes and Indigenous people across the continent. We work to partner with the sovereign governments that have cared for this land long before the United States and the State of Oklahoma were established. We look to the wisdom of Native nations as we take on our greatest challenges and seek to find solutions. Happy Indigenous People's Day!

When left untreated, these conditions can compound. We can and must invest in prevention to support young people and give them the tools they need to build their future.

A lack of housing impacts Oklahomans across the state, in our urban areas and in rural towns. The biggest contradiction we learned about is while we don’t have enough affordable starter homes for families and workers, we also have more than 200,000 vacant housing units statewide!

Senate Minority Leader Julia Kirt says land banks could help communities turn vacant properties into workforce and affordable housing.
