Our loved ones to the firefighters on the Olivia Fire Department are our loved ones also. The OFD family is strong and it shows every time we get together.
There is a side of being a firefighter that doesn't always get talked about. The side that belongs to the people waiting at home.
The wife who hears the pager go off and watches her husband walk out the door, never knowing exactly what he is walking into. The one who worries when the calls come in, who understands the risks even when she doesn't say them out loud, and who has to find a way to carry on with her day while a part of her is always wondering if he is okay.
She doesn't put on the uniform. She isn't the one climbing into the truck. But in her own way, she carries a piece of every call, every worry, and every sacrifice that comes with loving a firefighter.
And when your brothers and sisters in the fire service become family, so do the people who stand beside them at home.
To the wives who share their husbands with their communities. To the ones who understand the missed dinners, the interrupted evenings, the sleepless nights, and the worry that comes with a life of service. To the ones who support them, believe in them, and love them through it all, even when the job asks a little more of them than most people will ever understand.
Thank you. For the sacrifices people don't see. For the strength you show when the pager goes off. And for loving someone who has chosen to be there for others, even when it means your own heart has to wait until they come home.
The uniform may belong to the firefighter, but the sacrifice is shared by the family.
