I recently enjoyed some great conversations at the Pacific Northwest District Energy Summit in Seattle!

It was wonderful to hear from energy experts and industry leaders about innovative ways to improve energy efficiency and strengthen our region’s infrastructure.

As Vice Chair of the Senate Environment, Energy & Technology Committee, it’s always valuable to hear fresh perspectives and learn about solutions that can help shape Washington’s energy future. Thanks to everyone who shared their insights!

It was great to join the Washington State Building & Construction Trades Council to celebrate Construct a Career and the work it has done to connect more Washingtonians with pathways into the skilled trades.

Apprenticeships give people the opportunity to earn a paycheck while learning a trade, building skills and creating a path toward a good-paying career. Programs like Construct a Career help make those opportunities more accessible and show that there are many ways to build a successful future.

I’m grateful to everyone who has helped make this work possible and I look forward to continuing to strengthen pathways into careers that allow people and families to thrive.

I’m very grateful to the Quinault Indian Nation for welcoming us and sharing the incredible work they are leading across their communities.

We spent the day learning about village relocation efforts in Queets and Taholah, visiting the Tribal Fish Hatchery, and seeing restoration work along the Upper Quinault River firsthand.

I’m thankful to the Quinault Tribal Council, staff and community members who took the time to share their knowledge, priorities and experiences with us. Opportunities like this are an important reminder of how much we gain when we listen, learn and work together as partners.

Last week, I toured the I-90 Snoqualmie Pass wildlife crossing and the Gold Creek Wildlife Research Area. Since 2014, WSDOT has recorded nearly 40,000 successful crossings over and under 1-90, including 10,000 crossings alone on the wildlife bridge. These passages are essential for protecting our precious PNW wildlife and keeping drivers safe. Thank you to Jen at Conservation Northwest for a fantastic tour!

The new north section of the Snoqualmie River Walk is officially open! During yesterday’s ribbon-cutting ceremony, I joined Snoqualmie Mayor James Mayhew and other local leaders for a guided walk along the trail to learn about the key features and restoration work. With fall approaching, this is a great place to take in the sights of the new season!

The Snoqualmie River is an essential part of our ecosystem, and I want to thank City of Issaquah Mayor Mark Mullet for securing significant funding for this project when he served in the Legislature. I look forward to continuing this work to protect and restore the river, as well as improve how we can enjoy it for years to come.

I enjoyed learning more about 6PPD and what we can do to keep this harmful tire chemical out of our waterways and protect our Coho salmon.

Thank you to Rep. Zach Hall and the researchers at the Washington Stormwater Center for sharing their work and helping us find a path forward. 🐟

It was great to spend time in North Bend touring Si View Park and visiting the North Bend Farmers Market with Mayor Mary Miller.

Strong communities are built through investments in the places where people live, work, and gather. I’m grateful for the opportunity to hear directly from local leaders, small business owners, and community members about what’s working and where we can continue to invest in the 5th Legislative District.

I recently had the opportunity to tour two exciting examples of the innovation happening right here in our state.

At Snohomish PUD’s Arlington operations center, I saw how their microgrid can keep critical operations running during a power outage, helping crews coordinate emergency repairs when they’re needed most. They’re also building a 25 MW battery facility that will be the largest in Washington when it comes online later this year.

I also visited Helion’s headquarters in Everett to learn more about their work developing fusion energy and its potential role in our clean energy future.

From strengthening the grid today to exploring the energy technologies of tomorrow, Washington is at the forefront of exciting work. I’m grateful to the teams who showed me what they’re building in our community.

City leaders are leading on clean energy - love to see it! Great article here authored by Issaquah Councilmember Jiang on how cities can help us build the clean energy future we need in WA. Forests are far more threatened by climate change than by the presence of electrical infrastructure. ⚡️🌎🌲

To get batteries built on the timeline that climate change requires, city governments must lead the way and welcome clean energy in our backyards.

Our first-ever Aire Craft Festival was such a wonderful celebration of imagination, creativity and community! 🪂

It was incredible to see the dedication that went into bringing this event to life while celebrating Issaquah’s paragliding community and its long history of supporting the visual and performing arts.

As a legislator, I’m proud to celebrate the creativity, culture and community spirit that make our region such a special place to live. I was honored to be included in the festival’s opening ceremonies and to help celebrate this exciting new tradition in our community. Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make the Aire Craft Festival a reality!
