Today, we honor the Indigenous peoples who were here long before colonization. We recognize their history, their cultures, their traditions, their resilience, and the generations who have fought to protect their land, their identity, and their way of life.

Indigenous history did not begin with Columbus, and it should never be reduced to his arrival. Behind the history books are real people, thriving civilizations, sacred traditions, and stories of survival that deserve to be heard, respected, and remembered.

Today is about honoring the First Peoples, acknowledging the painful truths of colonization, celebrating Indigenous voices, and recognizing that their cultures are not just part of our past. They are alive, strong, and still shaping our present.

Honor the people. Respect the culture. Acknowledge the truth. Celebrate Indigenous Peoples.

❤️ THANK YOU, KTVB! ❤️

From our Danza Azteca family to yours, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude to KTVB for highlighting our group and helping share the beauty, history, and significance of Danza Azteca with our community. Thank you for giving our tradition a voice and helping others understand the meaning behind our danza.

For centuries, Danza Azteca has been more than a performance. It carries our history, spirituality, cultural identity, and the teachings passed down from one generation to the next. Every step, every drumbeat, and every movement tells a story of who we are, where we come from, and what we strive to preserve for future generations.

For 15 years, our Danza Azteca family has proudly called the Treasure Valley home, sharing our culture, participating in community events, supporting local causes, and creating meaningful connections through danza. We are especially proud to be a family-oriented group, where children, parents, and generations come together to learn, grow, support one another, and keep our traditions alive.

Our impact goes beyond the dance circle. We strive to educate, inspire our youth, bring families together, celebrate our Indigenous roots, and build bridges between cultures. We believe that when our children understand their heritage, they carry forward a stronger sense of identity, pride, respect, and belonging.

Fifteen years later, our commitment remains the same: to honor our ancestors, strengthen our families, serve our community, and pass this beautiful tradition on to the next generation.

Thank you, KTVB, for recognizing our group and helping us share a tradition that means so much to our families and our community.

Your coverage helps ensure that our stories, our culture, and our voices continue to be seen and heard.

One family. One community. One tradition. Many generations.

THE MEXICA DANCER WAS PART OF THE INSTRUMENT.

Think about that for a moment.

Mexica ceremonial dance wasn't simply:

🎵 Music playing
💃 Person dancing

The dancer could actually contribute to the sound.

Ankle rattles moved with the dancer's steps.

Drums established the rhythmic foundation.

Flutes and conch instruments added sound.

The dancers' coordinated movements created another layer of rhythm.

That means the body itself became part of the musical system.

And this explains something important about Mexica dance:

The footwork mattered.

The dancer wasn't just trying to look impressive.

Every step, movement, formation, and rhythm could have a role within the ceremony.

Dance could be physically demanding, disciplined, repetitive, and sacred.

For the Mexica, dance wasn't merely entertainment.

It could be an offering.
